Gkeese, why not?  Sounds like fun to me, can you teach your chickens to dance a hoe-down?

Barry, I wish I had a jug, it would sound a lot better than my fiddlin' …

devil-violin

Ive found that the full jugs when properly emptied can also improve violin tone

I made a click track early this time. This is the track that we will be using, tempo and all. Let's get an early start. I plan on making demo videos this coming week.

CLICK TRACK – for recording in unison – download, save, practice with, and record while playing in-ear. Bile Em Cabbage Down – Click Track – to save, right click (control click for Mac) and choose "Save Link As".

Everything for this project can be found on the link off the home page.
Get involved in the next International Group Project with, "Bile Em Cabbage Down".

Only three notes? Surely I can manage that! Count me in, but I may need that demo vid, lol. I think my chickens cluck 4 notes!

My 9 yo is working on part 4. It is mostly about rhythm. I think Pierre's demo vids will be very helpful on this piece for those of us with minimal-to-nonexistent music reading skills.  smile

Actually after I figured out how to read the notes, (courtesy of the vids and piano examples Pierre provided) I think I am going to try to tackle Violin 4 as well.  It is day 5 of my fantastic violin playing (or as my wife calls it, "Owwwwww, my EARS!!!"), I think I can do Violin 4.  It seems easy enough, but who knows?  I know I feel good about doing it, I just hope everyone else feels the same way!

First off, very nice "do" Kevin; I think I have a few aunts and uncles that visit the same "salon"  roflol

Now that travel is done for me for a while, I can't wait to get started!  I haven't been able to touch my violin in 3 wks and I'm die'n to get back at 'er.bananabananabanana

And I just asked my daughter Brooke if she'd like to participate and she started laughing and said "what the hell, why not" and laughed some more.  She'll try to add a mando part and acoustic guitar part if that works for y'all.

Great Fred,

BTW, I'm seriously considering visiting S. Calif to see the NAMM show between the 24 – 27 with Michael. It's a Trade Fair for Musical Instrument merchants. The NAMM show takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center.

I would probably arrive on Monday and spend a week to see the sites and visit some people. :-)

Sounds like a great venue FM… wave up to N. Cali when you get there.  Cali will be a better state for a bit with such a cool fiddle dude in town..  gold_star

I practiced the Viola 1 part last night until my fingers hurt and my wife got inspired to hide in the back bedroom to get away from my attempts at double-stops. I'm thinking I'm not going to get those devilish duos down in time for the deadline. I can play the melodic line about 60% of the time, but only at half speed at present – and only if hitting the correct notes doesn't count.blink

At least I still have a whole month to work on it…

Whatever happened to your wife learning to play the violin?
She can play part 5 smile
I'll be posting that some time this week when I have time to record.

Sure, why not.  It's going to take me a year to get double stops down but, in the meantime I think I can handle Part 4.  I'll get busy on it right away.

I don't know if I can manage to make an actual video so I might have to send in just the audio. Once this is recorded and ready to be sent in what format is preferable ? Wav, mp3, ogg ?  I can deliver sound in any preferable format.

I think my wife doesn't want to get ahead of Son #2, and would rather wait to do his lessons "with" him when he enters the school orchestra in the fall. Just the same, she was talking about having Son #1 work with her a bit in the evenings this week. Either way, I don't see "Cabbage" as being in her personal time-line.frown

Actually, tell her "Good luck" with getting ahead of him. She will probably need the head start. Also, it's really good if she can give him some guidance though I imagine you are more than competent to do so now.

Glad to hear that she is jumping in. I'll be doing a part 5 for those absolute beginners, learn off the video. SUPER EASY. I want her video for the project. Maybe you guys can all four play it as a family. That would be real cool. smile

Actually all the couples here should play together too, that is if you guys can work together. ;-)

I'll have to see if my wife can play this on her flutophone and my daughter on her didgeridoo.

Ive printed the music for all four and will start with the fourth part and work my way up. My daughter will also be participating as will (probably) another friend. My bridge is flatter than the average bear so double stops will be easier for me. regards, Rob. Incedentally, that one month I took bluegrass lessons……….started with the cabbage. Kinda funny for me, already have a head start on the shuffle and the tune.

I warned my wife yesterday about your "expectations," so she had me put tapes on her violin and had Son-of-a-Cheese walk her through some basic exercises on how to hold the violin and bow, etc. We had her playing "Mary had a little lamb" before we were done. We're waiting to see what the Violin 5 piece looks like. Hopefully, your instructional video will instill some confidence in her to join in the project.
