OfflineI love old fiddle tunes and I also enjoy the history and stories that go along with them.
So, a little about this tune. Bile them cabbage down is a little over 400 years old and started as an African slave tune. Folks on both sides of the plantation enjoyed and shared music, whites learned black tunes and vice versa. The mix we hear today comes from mainly Scots-Irish tunes and black hoe downs.
Just as we'll never know just how Paganini sounded, we will also never know how many changes this tune went through before the habit of notating them came along and arrived at this version. Funny enough, even though this tune is common it still has many variations.
See, it isnt just old classical that stands the test of time ![]()

OfflineHey, FM: can we do hybrid parts? In other words, is it acceptable to do a combo of the sections that we're able to do. For example, if I can do the first half of part 3 and the second half of part 4, is it OK if I jump from one part to the other in one recording?
Or would you prefer that the parts or sections of parts to be separate files?

Yes Dianne, absolutely you can. It all fits together perfectly that way.
You can even make up a part if you like, just test it with the midi files so that the parts match if you are uncertain.
OfflineGreat! Right now, unless I have some sort of breakthrough in the next week or so, here's what I'm going to do:
There are six repeating sections. I can play sections of 1-4 of part 3, section 5 of part 4 and section 6 of part 2. (I might even be able to do the double stops in that last section…maybe.)
