Hye there!

It is almost a year i bumped on this website.  With the help of people around here especially Pierre and helpful fellow fiddlers, I now can read music sheets, have better understanding of violin theories and almost finish Suzuki Book 3.

Recently, on the new years eve, I have performed in small gig where my incomplete crash canon in D and incorrect Air on G strings received positive respond from viewers.

And i believe, without this forum and its people, i'll never progress.  Lot of questions and answers in the discussion have helped me improved. Yes, it almost a year to understand vibratos, octave, chromatic, and others things.  Still, it is not cover all and lot of things i need to catch up!!!  So, i just want to say thanks and may god bless fiddlerman.com

p/s - I still not bowing straight! damn :p

From what I read you are very eager to learn tunes but havent quite yet mastered the basics? Did I get that right? I would encourage you to take the next 90 days and go back to the beginning and even Book 1 of Suzuki and work on each song till it can be played perfectly. This will help you alot. Bowing straight is going to be an important skill for you to learn if you want to advance your bowing skills. So I encourage you to slow down and focus on the basics for a bit and see if your overall playing improves. Post a vid for petes sake so we can see ya!

Zickler, Congrats on the 1 year mark!birthday-cake

The 90 day thing is crazy. Don't drink that cool aid. Its a bad thing.. its... what? I need another sip? I don't want to... but... well.. NO.. I won't drink it again... I wont....just a little one? well, OK, but just  a little drink.

cheers

So, when you complete your 90 days of basics, your play should increase exponentially.  ;)

Congratulations zickler :-)

Time flies doesn't it. We love having you around. Rather than learning to bow straight see if you can learn to angle the bow so it goes where you want it to. Angle it on a down bow and see if it comes closer to your bridge or further. The opposite angle on an up bow will do the same thing. In other words, learn to drive the bow.

Congrats..I am here with you... I need to follow what Rob Says... a little basics review..but it is a fantastic year I have  had.  Most memorable experience from this site... is that on my first violin recital..I messaged with Pierre right before and got some really good advice.

Thanks for posting... it is good to hear "good" success stories....and I am around the 1 year mark myself.

Ah, just what I was wondering about.  Are you talking about an X pattern in bowing?

I want to try it.  But I don't know/can't remember whether the bowing hand is farther away on the upbow or on the downbow.  I know I have seen a video on this topic, but I don't remember where.

That is the reason that I did not say. I would like you to test it out. The bow will guide you. You can learn to steer that bow straight this way.

Thank you, Pierre for the great tip.

The bow did not give me problem. It's just I flunk the driving test though, LOL.

thumbs-up
