LOL - I'm sitting here looking at my three violins... and it worries me that I don't know of a collective noun (or term) for a number of fiddles - I just like order in my life - here's a few possibilities -

A virtuosity of violins - hmmm - dunno

A string of violins     - I like that

A vibration of violins  - hmmm dunno

A variation of violins ... hmmm at least it's a musical connotation...

A fingering of fiddles  - I like that

A fetch of fiddles.... (struggling with that one - in the sense that a "fetch" is an uninterrupted length of something... (often water) - so my row of fiddles could be a "fetch" - yup - really pushing that one to the limit - but I quite like it ! )

.... Add your own (and explain the link between the collective-term and the violin if not obvious !   And especially good if you get words beginning with "v" or "f"... )

...can you tell?   I needed a break from practice, and now I'm bored....lumpy-2134

Mine would be a pack of violins or a pile of violins since I pile them up, or a barrel of violins since I also put them in a storage buckets like those people use to store Halloween costumes. By the way, I have seven violins (4/4, 7/8, 3/4, 1/2, 1/2, 1/4, 1/32) that could be played + 1 guitar, 1 1/2 size guitar, 1 ukulele, 1 ukulele kit, and two kits (4/4, 3/4), one box of wood for 4/4, one 4/4 awaiting for repair. Maybe it should be a clutter of violins?!

LOL folks !

At least we've had a laugh here !  Good on y'all !

@uncledave vile of violins - that works Dave man !  It's a love-hate relationship with the devil's  own instrument, is it not? Haaa ... but good overcomes evil ... ( evil / vile / anagram ???  There's something in that word "vile" that connects to the devil's-instrument - good one Devil - oops - my mistake - I meant Davel   (?)  !!! )  But come the day of your first "live" performance - the "spell of vile and evil" ( get it? )  will be broken...... sorry......  sorry... at least I didn't try to drag Elvi(s) into the word-play...

@pky - that's not a clutter - now, come on, be honest with us, that's just a MESS of violins you have there.....  treat 'em with more respect ! (kidding with you!)  SEVEN of the wee devils....  I am concerned about your situation there I have to say - if I had that many I most certainly would not sleep easy of a night... wow - take care - they may have their OWN agenda...  I suspect that what you may there is "A Viciousness of Violins" - but you don't know it yet !!!   Take care pky - sleep with one eye open...

!!!!  Thanks folks - you are making a wet and windy August day in Scotland turn into a bit of fun - good on yah !!!

LMAO here... nothing to do with music or playing, but glad my bit of nonsense clearly brought a smile to some faces!   We're doing well... keep 'em coming...

A Flight of Fiddles (especially when things ain't sounding right and you're thinking of pitching them out the window... or maybe when several fiddlers actually all start on the beat they are supposed to; that would be sorta in a poetic sense)

A Fecundity of Fiddles (considering the tendency of one's collection to grow over time)

A Vault of Violins (when in a respectful mood)

A Vituperation of Violins (when they mostly are teaching you whole new cuss-words)

"This young wine may have a lot of tannins now, but in 5 or 10 years it is going to be spectacular, despite the fact that right now it tastes like crude oil. You know this is how it is supposed to taste at this stage of development." ~ Itzhak Perlman

For beginners a group of violins, based upon sound they make would be:

1. A clouder  (as in a group of cats)

2. A murder (as in a flock of crows)

3. A gaggle ( as in a flock of geese on the ground)

For those that have numerous violins as monetary investments:  A collection

For those that collect them for their physical beauty: A chorus line

For those that have them for the sheer love of them:  A family.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. ~Herm Albright
