I just found an interesting article about the correlation between loud music and drinking more.  It makes one wonder about those good 'ole moonshinin' fiddlers and how they can drink mas quantities of their product without so much as flinching!

What do you guys think?  Do you believe that music can lead to more drinking?

And just for fun, what is your favorite "Fiddlin' Juice" and why! :D  .....and for those underaged fiddlers.....I better see water or milk! LOL  blink

Enjoy!  cheers

Awe man.......now I want to go on vacation! LOL  Every time I hear that song, I think of nice beaches, clear water and not a worry in the world!  It's funny how music can do that!  Hmm.....I feel another forum topic/survey coming on! devil-violin

Hmm.....I do have a good bottle of Merlot & port nearby!  I should try that tonight while fiddlin'!

I usually have a bottle of good craft beer, Scotch or Bourbon for those "fun" nights of playing!  But hey, good friends, good libations and fun music.......what can be better?

Oh thanks a lot, Ferret! LOL  Hope you enjoy it!  I technically have a beach close by, but it's Lake Michigan....not as fun as the ocean!

That Moscow Mule sounds really good!  Would Ginger Ale (soda version) work in place of the beer??

One of my favorite drinks to have by campfire is Hot Apple Pie (Yukon Jack, Apple Cider, Apple Juice & cinnamon sticks).  I've seen some recipes with Everclear.....but you have to add so much garbage to it to cover up the Everclear taste! LOL  With a good grain alcohol, you can't event taste it!  ......which can be dangerous, so always fiddle standing up while drinking this! LOL

Hi Ken

Byron Bay is about half way up the east coast of AU

Those pesky jelly fish are way up north, and those scary great whites are way down south.

And who said anything about actually 'getting in' the water.rofl

Still too cold anyway. It's about 3 weeks until spring here. But great campfire weather

Oh believe me, I wouldn't mind the sharks and jelly fish!  Over here, we have to worry about chemical sunsets, industrial waste from Chicago, the occasional dead body floating ashore, dune sink holes and the dreaded and ever so feared......E-coli bacteria! roflroflolrofl

Actually, swimming with sharks is on my bucket list!  .....but I think I would prefer a cage!

John,

I did a search on Brunswick River after I visited your website and got a little confused. :-) Turns out it's a popular name for a river. LOL

Brunswick River (Georgia) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brunswick River is a 6-mile-long (10 km) tidal river in Georgia. It begins at the Sidney Lanier Bridge at Brunswick, Georgia, at the confluence of the Turtle ...

Brunswick River (North Carolina) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brunswick River in North Carolina runs for 14 miles along the west bank of Eagle Island near the city of Leland. The Brunswick River is a fork of the Cape ...

Water, juice, lemonade.  If I have to do recording or performing, I try to also stay away from caffeine for an hour or two before, since it can mess your timing and etc a bit.  Most caffeinated beverages also may require more bathroom trips.  Not the best thing 2 songs into a set at a gig.

Not that I "quit drinking", but I just drink very rarely, and pretty much never when I'm going to play.  I used to have a bad habit of getting sloshed before I'd go onstage back in the band days, for the stage fright.  I had a good teacher who encouraged me out of that, since it most definitely wasn't helping my playing to be barely able to stand.  LOL

And I'm not saying that an alcoholic drink or few aren't an option for adults, whether they play or not.

But I felt at least one adult player who chooses *not* to drink when he plays should sound off.  Otherwise some of our younger members might get the idea that all adult musicians drink alcohol when they play, or that maybe it makes a person play better, or that it is expected.  I honestly don't think that is an idea we are trying to promote for the younger players here, but some might get the wrong idea.

Nothing wrong with having a glass of water or juice as refreshments while playing, and it isn't necessarily just an option for underage fiddlers/violinists.  Some of us "old farts" also prefer to play clear-headed.

I like red wine.  But I would like the experience of a good violin jam/hoe down with some dark ale and whiskey... For effect.

Mostly it is red wine.  After a few glasses I don't play as well... Of course I don't care that I can't play as well... Lol

Daniel... Good points on not needing booze to perform...

I guess the goal is, to get everybody else drunk then let me play! LOL  Nah, I do enjoy a good drink every once in a while.  Especially if I'm just sitting around with some good friends, having fun!  When we go camping, my violin is a staple in our supplies now.  It just "fits."  .....just don't eat s'mores at the same time!  roflexactlyfacepalmdunno
