Hello...

So this morning I was listening to some music and found a beautiful song from the BBC film North and South, (all the songs from that are beautiful) but this one in particular list=LL6_vso21HjPXXsz0UbAR3Xg&index=1

And I got it in my head that I was going to try and learn to play it on the harp. So I got our harp and tuned it up as best I could, it is a lot of strings to tune. But there are a few strings missing. I have some extra strings but I don't know which ones belong where.

So my question is, does anyone know about how to re-string a harp? The string packages have Gauge's written on them ex. .060 and .036 but that isn't helping me too much. The harp that we have is a Celtic Harp with no levers or pedals so I just tuned it to the key I will be playing in (C min).

Any help or advice would be appreciated. P1070562.JPGImage Enlarger

Thanks in advance. :)

Pretty harp. looks like about a 36 string?

Never have strung that type, but if you scroll down this page there are some stringing charts that may help, if any of the types are similar to what you have..

Nice to find out that at least one other member plays some harp, though!

OMG, that is some beautiful wood working. WOW, that would look nice anywhere in my house!

I love the sound of a string instrument, and I bet that thing sounds AWESOME! thumbs-up

What a beautiful harp.  I am excited that you want to play it.  I would love to hear you play it.   Good luck with stringing it.

Wow.. it is so pretty.  It seems so beautiful and relaxing.

Good luck!!

@Ferret we must be getting all your rain here... we've had so many storms and so much rain the last two weeks, hope you guys get some soon we are happy to share it with you. :)

@cdennyb it is a very nice instrument and it does have a lovely sound, I'm sure it would look good in a lot of peoples houses, but it's staying here sorry. ;)

@coolpinkone Thanks Toni, it is beautiful. Maybe one day I'll record something with it. My sister and I replaced most of the strings yesterday, but there was just one that we didn't have and I came out this morning to a broken string. :( looks like I'll have to buy some more.

Oh I was NOT suggesting it come live with me! Oh no, I already have a piano, and 4 violins! A harp would be the death of me for sure.

LOLfacepalm
