He definately doesnt look 40 years old, and of course Pag was supposed to be homely right? I wonder what other artistic liscence has been taken? Are the instruments even period correct? Gut strings? Thats the kind of stuff I like to see.

@Picklefish , oh yes for sure, from videos and pictures I've seen feom the film, they used some historical accurate props, i.e Paganini's tinted glasses, or using a copy of il cannone with an ivory nut(I've also seen in a picture what depicts to be Paganini gambling away his violin{which was pribably an Amati, history says he gambled away an Amati})....the bridge isn't heartless though and the fittings aren't the same "simple" fitting i.e french style ebony tailpiece and french boxwood pegs like Paganini used, the bow should be also longer than usual, and the inlay on the frog should be diamond shaped as what I've seen and read.....I don't think they would use gut strings though, anyway it's just a film, the plot isn't even historically correct and some of the characters are fictional, some musical references aren't real e.g "lo ti penso" as what the lady sung on the trailer, is actually the 2nd movement of Paganini's concerto no. 4, but many of the elements are real, i.e the gambling of the amati, the made up story of the faustian bargain to gain more popularity(the deal with the devil story is actually the theme of the film, the film is about how his manager planned and executed the story of the devil to make Paganini more famous. Anyway, it's not really a documentary that should be super accurate to the details and is gonna be shown with discovery channel or history channel, but it is a movie to enjoy, to be thrilled, to be inspired, that's what I love with this movie, not many people know who Paganini is, when this movie i released, at least people will know the genius of the "first rock star"....btw, Garrett's a great actor for Paganini, he plays great, at least the actor's not a real actor that can't play the violin and just fake it, or a not known violinist, because Garrett has a lot of fans, so it's great for many people to learn who Paganini was.
the feeling I get from this movie is the same feeling I've got when they made the new three stooges movie, though it's not really as funny as the original, ar least people of the modern times learn and know three of the greatest comedians ever. Or the new "yellow submarine" 3d movie, which I felt sorry because they stopped the production of the film....I imagined young people watching the movie, enjoying the music of the beatles, it's great to see modern people looking back to what history gave, we have a saying here from where I live, "kung hindi ka lumingon sa iyong pinangalingan, hindi ka makakarating sa iyong paparoonan" in english: "if you don't look back to where you've came from, you won't succeed to where you are going"...er something like that.

for me, its a movie about how David Garret rocks on the violin, basically. I hope its better than the "Red Violin" at least. And I hope the gratuitous sex scenes dont expose me to any of Garrets blank back side! lol. But yes, in todays day and age, recreating all the little historical nuances should've been no problem. I'm still gonna watch it though, its a violin movie after all. I just thought I'd goose you a little with my reply there.

Okay..yes Garrett is good to look at but it is about so much more than that. (to me).. ... you know.. I don't care what license is taken.. I just want to watch the violin... get into the mode of what it might have been .. a little... enjoy my history with a bit of "Hollywood." I watched Garrett last night.. a couple of Viva La Vida videos...and he seems to have such a connection with his music and violin and he performs like a genius. ..(not like a genius..AS a musical genius)... I am so excited to see this movie... I can't wait. I have to say, when I first was introduced to David Garrett over a year ago.. I was wowed by it all..but then I didn't seem to care as much for him as I was so into Hilary..... but now watching him perform and connect to the songs and it is really just amazing to me.
sorry for the .... rant.... rushing rushing rushing..
Thanks for posting Oz. I can't wait to compare notes with you and all. I don't know much about Paganini...so I will rely on you to clue me in. Yahooo.......

Hahaha! Cheers @coolpinkone ! I dunno why but from what I've witnessed(through youtube and facebook comments) , 95%-98% of the people who are excited with watching this film are fans of David Garrett, and would watch this because of Garrett, it's good to see people(like you) watching this because of the story of Paganini, the music of Paganini(or the violin) and not Garrett ....but well, Garrett is a fantastic musician.

Maybe David Garrett sold his soul to the devil and that's why they picked him for role. LOL
As Oz already said, Paganini was the first "superstar", and I think that David Garrett can pull off the playing and stage presence with enough flair that it could actually be quite credible. I think the whole devil angle was a marketing ploy, but it was at least part of Paganini's bag of gimmicks. It is something that, like back then, can catch the imagination of an audience, so I can understand why they are using it as the big plotline for the movie.
If it was all historically accurate and they got an actor who could look just like Paganini, it wouldn't have as much chance for popular appeal. If it is at least a good movie that tells *some* of the real story, it has an excellent chance of being better than the one Klaus Kinski did.

@cdennyb , that's awesome!...anyway, the film should be release in english in America, because the director's english and many of the actors are english, as you can also see in the trailer, when they talk, their voices aren't synced with their mouth, which should mean that it's originally in english, I think they will release it in Germany first though.
