I'm having trouble finding an affordable 4/4 or 3/4 size (I'm right in between the two sizes) entry level violin. I've been looking at the cecilio cvn 700 and 600 but they are all in America and I live in Australia and the postage is to dear and I was wondering if anybody knew of any good ones $500.00 or under?

Hi bjmr … I'm also in Australia, and I bought an Ashton for $200 including postage from eBay.

PM me if you need more details.  I'm also selling mine if you're interested.

Is there a Craigs list Down Under?  Just wondering?  If shipping is expensive from the U.S. and He buys from Craigs list, doesn't that present the same problem.  But there must be good deals for violins everywhere.  I have a good Chinese Violin that I got from E-Bay, someone in Australia must be selling them inexpensively as well.  Right?  someone said they got a 200 dollar violin there.

Hope you find the right fiddle for yourself soon.

Shipping from the US is very expensive.  We always sent our friends in Australia Christmas presents but the last time the shipping was over $200.00 and it took over two munths after it sat in customs.  Then to get a violin the import duties would be too much unless it was declared as used and broken.

I couldn't find any fiddles on craigslist (that was the day when my computer stopped working though) but eBay was pretty successful.                                       thanks every one for the good advice

Hey Barney, which part of Australia are you from? Maybe you should just visit the music store and pick out the violin you think produces a good sound. That's how I chose my acoustic violin... but it's a fair bit pricier than 500 :\ but I'm sure there are cheaper violins that sound good in your local music store too.

Hi Barry, I've never heard of this site, but thought I'd have a look.

I clicked on Brisbane and in the 'for sale' column 'wanted'.

Not a nice surprise to find the first ad was for a man looking for ... shall we say ... 'personal' services?  Complete with graphic description of required services.

But I suppose we'll get those sort of things anywhere, so a whole new meaning to 'buyer beware' ...

Try the Cecilio CVN-300 or their solid-body electrics. They're all available through Amazon or some other online retailers.

I'm from tasmania and there are two music stores that sell violins (there are others that are based on guitars and drum kits ) but my music teacher said that violins that come from the one with the most violins (McFees) arn't set up very well (as in the strings come loose and when you tighten them the wood bows inwards twisting the violin out of shape) and the other one (Mecans) does'ent have a huge range of violins and I did'ent like the sound or feel of any of them exept the electric ones
