Hey guys, who's up for another StreetJelly fiddlefest ?  Hopefully we can get a few more to join in this time, though we didnt do bad the last time.

November 22nd sounds like a good date and plenty of time to polish your set !

Will work out the time slot details as we go along and Im open to suggestions on how we can improve over last time (again, not that it was bad ). Im thinking 30 minute sets are about right. Thoughts ?

anyway, post a IM IN !! here and we'll start planning it !!

Thanks and hoping for a great turn out !!

I asked Frank (SJ owner) if he could get us a fiddler emoticon, here is his response :

Cool idea - I have to look in the image/smiley files we have.  If I can find one, I'll definitely get it up.  But it was a package we bought, so no promises one exists.

Frank

ps- When it gets closer, send us the details to the Fiddle Fest, we'll help promote it.

I'M IN!!!

I recently started creating some backing tracks for both practice and SJ  shows...I thought some accompaniment would make my fiddling more interesting and help mask mistakes. The timing sounds perfect, as a 11/22 show would give me plenty of time to put together enough backing tracks for a 30 minute set. I think 30 minute sets sound good.

Hope you get a good turnout for this Fiddlefest, Barry!

I'm going to try to make this one!  Yipppiii!  But alas, I will have no sweet backing tracks, just wooden stairs in the background hahaha

Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

I should be in this time round, just part of the audience before!

I like the special smileys plan!   And ain't Frank a great chap thumbs-up - I had detailed exchanges of email with him regarding my SJ email-notification issues - he could not have been more helpful, even although the issue was nothing to do with SJ !

Ive decided to make this a yearly event. So Im going to call this one : "The First Annual StreetJelly Fiddlefest "

Im going to work my tail off promoting this and plan to invite fiddlers, violinists,Violists and Cellists from all over the web.(not sure we will be getting any cellist's ,but wouldnt that be cool as hell  )

That said, I dont want to restrict any musicians on set length and after much thought Ive come up with an idea ya'll may like. I call it "stand partners".  You pair off with a stand partner and share the hour set . Example : 1stimestar 6PM   feathers 6:30 PM

In the event we come up with an odd number we will just triple up 6 / 6:30/7

of course any of you that want to do a longer set, please do. I myself plan to do an hour.

Also feel free to schedule what ever is convenient for you. Im hoping there will be string players through out the day.

@fiddlerman     Pierre, since this isnt a fiddlerman function , you got no reason not to join in. There are great classical guitarists on SJ but that dosent stop us other guitar players from playing  ;)

Well, after several deep thought days, I've decided to give it a try...thumbs-up

Yes, I have 4 tunes I will be playing and with a little verbal abuse in between, I should manage about 20 minutes total. I have my time slot picked but it is very flexible if someone else would like it because of time constraints. I will pick another.

I will be playing all 4 of my violins in this first (and probably last!) appearance live playing the violin before a live audience... {I can't believe I'm doing this!} facepalmfacepalm

Agree with Fiddlerman - takes courage to do this and I feel like the cowardly lion. Just wondering .... do you have to play without sheet music to participate in the StreetJelly Fiddlefest or is it okay to use the sheet?semiquaver-1214

Though it's not my place to answer, I'm sure you can use music. As a matter of a fact, you could probably get a better effect by reading sheet off your computer. It'll look like you are staring at the audience. :)

@cdennyb :  Nov.22. At least you have plenty of time to polish your performance.

Go, man, go.    thumbs-up     violin-1267

@VickieD  I have it on good authority that there is no problem playing from sheet. :)

I love your playing!  I think you would be a great addition to the FiddleFest.   :)

Yea, well the rest of you are cowards if you don't join me! Fiddlerman of all people... having appeared in concerts and orchestras and performances of all kinds, the least you can do is blow 20 minutes in there somewhere.

@Toni... if you don't play, I don't play so you're not just a cheerleader this time girly!

@Fiddlestix... it ain't going to get much better than it already is brother!

@Vickie... well I'm playing from memory and by ear so if you and Toni want sheet music, all the more power to you! Rock on.

Go for it, Vickie! You can definitely use sheet music. There are no rules about sheet music on Street Jelly. If you want, you can position it so that it's off camera, though no one would fault you if it was visible. The main point is to participate, entertain and have fun!

I was very nervous about doing my first show, but after that it was a breeze. I'm hooked. Everyone is super supportive and it's very cool to play for people, even if you can't see them. :)
