I mentioned to a work colleague today that I was learning to play the violin and, since I enjoy various kinds of fiddle music, that's what I'd like to be able to play. Apparently not a fiddle aficionado herself, she asked "what's the most famous fiddle song?"

I didn't have a good answer off the cuff. So, it got me thinking: what IS  the most famous fiddle song?

Any opinions?

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

Charlie Daniels Bands' "Devil Went Down To Georgia" is the most famous fiddle song of all time. Instantly recognizeable from a few beginning notes.

"Soldiers Joy" is the most recorded fiddle tune in all of history

"Turkey in the straw" is popular with all the looney toons cartoons of my childhood

"Devils Trill" is the most infamous classical fiddle tune.

I would have thought maybe Foggy Mountain Breakdown, but I don't know a lot about fiddle songs.
