I was trying to just focus on the slur..so I just played that part a few times. I know there was scratchy and weird other noise. Thanks. Toni

You can count it, Toni. That's what i usually do, when i doubt, so:
You have 3/4 timing, and 16th notes (A and G).
The first note in the second measure (G) is 1/2=8/16 : 1 e & da 2 e & da
The second (B) is 1/8=2/16 : 3 e
Third and forth are 1/16
Count it out loud in slow tempo.
Hahahaha, i'm bad in trying to explain those things, hope i didn't make it more confusing
Good luck, Toni!

But I would be lying if I said I knew about 2e and da even means.
No problem, here is the answer:

I'm not really good with what is right or wrong musically but the notes your are hitting sound correct. > If you play them over and over again > and you probably have. What will happen is your inner self will connect and each note will have that inner feeling> Thats when it becomes real. > I love this song and have played with it a bit. There is SOoooo much feeling in this tune and > Well, the notes you are playing sound correct > each note has something to say. It sounds good to me. > Hope you will be bringing the whole tune to us. > It would be SWEET to hear ya sing it too. Your talking voice sounds like its gots what is needed to sing it also.
Thank you Stone. I hope to bring Toni's version someday.. But I do fear that I will ever be afraid of messing up that slur... Ha ha.. Thank you so much. All my life singing away.... Literally.... Untrained voice just sings all day..and in my head at night... I probably don't think I have a gift as no one has pointed it out... But I sing alone most of the time. I love to sing more than anything.

goodness... I forgot about that. THANK you.... and that is very very helpful.
How could I forget.
I watched a lot of videos a year ago...and they were.."over my head" at the time. I forgot that now some of them will click and be helpful. Pierre is a wonderful teacher.

Hi Pierre... Yes... Many members have offered tips and help.. I try to play that b note as an 8th and get two 16th notes on the same bow... Accurately timed... It is fun but hard to keep it consistent. Thank you for checking... Awesome folks here to help while you were away.

Great job Toni, you've got the notes right. The way you're playing the slurred notes sounds like triplets to me, which is the way it's often played. But the notation on your sheet music doesn't have triplets. I'm with Naska here, I count, and often use highlighter pens or such on the counts within the bar. Here you have 3/4 time, so it would count 1 .. 2 .. 3 ... That bar would then count 1 .. 2 .. (for the first note), and then 3 . a-and for the slurs. If you're really stuck with 16th notes, then put 6 marks on the bar for 6 eighth notes, then count 4 for the first note, 5 for the next and 6-and for the last 2 notes.
Ok, all of the above sounds fine to me, but I'm sure it may not make sense to you.
Probably best to watch the tutorials.
If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.
Robyn... thank you... it makes sense when I read it... not always when I put it to use.. but I love love love the feedback and the help. I need to get better with counting. And for the time being if I play it as a triplet I won't beat myself over the head...but I'd rather play it like it is written...for a personal challenge..
I know the song by heart now... the notes are all pretty easy and clear....and with things going on in the whole world and in my own little world... right now that song brings tears to my eyes..but it is soulful and useful too.
Thank you.

Hi all.
In addition to working on Brahms Lullaby, I am still working on Amazing Grace. I never quite got the slurs to go as the music dictates (which is my goal) ... but I do enjoy playing the song.
I had an hour practice today 30 minutes on Brahms, and 30 minutes on Amazing Grace.
Here is a sample. ( I could not get the ones with live video of me to play well... after 15 -20 takes, I took to just trying to make an audio.)
Happy Friday

You are still playing the three slurred notes as a triplet with the same length of tone for each note. The music sounds fine like that in this case (Amazing Grace). But for you to progress you will need to learn to play notes in music with the length of notes being what was originally actually intended by the composer.
The composer intended the G to be 2 full beats, B to be ½ a beat, and A to be 1/4 of a beat, then finally the last or second G to be 1/4 of a beat.
I don´t know if this will work, but as a lateral approach, try to play the same bar (=measure) of music backwards. It may help you to get an ear for the note lengths.
If you play it backwards, say "one" as you play the G from the end of the bar first, say "two" as you play the A, say "three four" as you play the B, and finally say "five six seven eight" as you play the G last (that G now was originally the long G at the start of the bar).
You should be saying each word in the phrase one two three four five six seven eight at a constant speed of talking. If you find you cannot talk and play at the same time, ask someone else to talk for you.
In addition to all the foregoing, while you are saying the words one two three four you are only allowed one bow stroke, to produce the slur.
If you can get the hang of that, you next need to do things in the reverse of reverse order to match the music (i.e. reverse of reverse is forward). In forward order it is when saying five six seven eight that you are only allowed one bow stroke while playing the last three notes.
My suggestion that you play backwards as an experiment is based on the hope that maybe it is easier for you to play it when the short notes are at the start of the bar, rather than short quick notes at the end of the bar.
Sorry if this turns out to be a bad idea.
