So I have finally picked the violin back up and decided I'd delve into some fiddle/folk/irish music because it brings a smile to my face. I'm working on learning Greensleeves right now. This is Part A. I have yet to master part B enough to play it without pausing a long moment to review the sheet music. So let me have it. It's been probably about a year or so since I seriously played last and i'm picking everything back up. Any little thing you see let me know so I can work on it.

I know I have a habit of collapsing my wrist so I'm working really hard to fix that as it really fixes my fingering issues as well. Oh and sorry about the jet noise at the end. it kinda broke my concentration hahah.  The sounds not the best. I couldn't get it to use my snowball for the mic so it just used the built in camera on my computer :D  Let me know if the video doesn't work. I lost my password to my youtube account and I'll be getting that righted quickly so the rest of mine will hopefully be on there :D

Great job and I love the smile. :)
The 2nd finger C on the A string should be a half step lower. Right now you are playing a C#.
The 2nd to last measure should be a G# with your 3rd finger, a half step higher than what you did.
There are other places you can play the G# but it's not necessary. There are a few slightly different variations of Greensleeves.
Thanks so much for the post and keep up the great work!

I was just going to give you a critique video badge and saw that you have one already. I don't know if you shared a performance video, but if you do this one again, or another piece and post it under share a video instead of "critique corner" you'll get a video badge as well. :) Let me know if I left out any badges for you.

Great job :D

I think over time with just reminding yourself to keep your wrist straight you'll do it :D Playing in front of a mirror helps work on little things like that. I don't think I saw it collapse in the video, though :)

Oh, if you don't have it already, for getting into Irish fiddling I love the book Mel Bay's Complete Irish Fiddle Player. Great bowing pattern tips, ornamentation, lots of fun tunes and comes with play-along cds :) It's what my teacher used for herself when she moved into fiddling, and what she had me use :)

Well done !  thumbs-up

I like to play Greensleeves along with Scarborough Fair - they work well together IMO.. if you wanna give it a try...

The S&G arrangement is well cool -

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Yay... good job... I don't have too much for you... you'll get those longer bow strokes as you come back to it.  I also heard the notes that FM was talking about, but you'll get that too.  I think that was the first song I played to use 4th finger G# note on the D string.   BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

I love to play that song... It just flows.

Welcome back to your fiddle.  Fiddle tunes are fun and beautiful. It is so very  Nice to see you.

Cheers and Smiles

@Fiddlerman  Thank you :D I thought it sounded a tad off but couldn't figure out why. I shall practice those notes. I find I tend to scrunch my fingers together as I play and I'm working on holding my fingers where they should be. that dang C# gets me every time. hahah. I learned a fun tune for my dad and I've played it so many times it's like my finger now defaults there hahaha. So I shall really practice on slowing it down and focusing on finger placement. thank you for all the insight.

@damfino I just got that book :D I can't wait to delve into it once I have mastered the greensleeves. It's such an neat book.

@BillyG  Oh I'll have to look into that as I get this one mastered. That could definally be an interesting mix of the two.

@coolpinkone  Thank you :) The fiddle tunes just make me smile and I definally need them after some days at work. lol. It's good to be back.

Well I've gotten to the final verse. How is it some days I can play it so relaxed and somedays I can't hit a single note to save my life?!!! Well this is the best recorded video I have. Prepare your ears cause it's not very pretty lol. The sound quality isn't the best either since I can't get my built in cam to use my snowball mic......but yeah...I think I messed up the ending and I know I missed a couple G#'s too but it's SLOWLY coming along. Hopefully when I get good enough for ornamentation it'll sound ALOT better lol.  But with my new violin It definally helps with hearing the notes more correctly so thats really been a plus...now i just need to learn to relax infront of a camera! lol

We all have days like these, when I have my good days I just try to make the most of it by playing more to enjoy it, haha.
