That is usually not an issue..but is was tonight when I pressed the suck button for the 30th time...  Let me have it folks...  (too slow.. yes... then too fast.. yes..) :)

Hi Toni,

Nothing negative from me! That's a long tune to memorize and you did an excellent job playing it, congrats!

Hi Toni

You picked a really hard one to play and are doing it really nicely.

Your slurring is great. How many notes are you doing on one bow stroke in this? Better than me at it exactly

Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of dunno ..... What was I saying???? facepalm

You did fine. Sure you will play with better tone and more precise strokes with more practice. For me, it is better to play my first million times through really slow with full controlled bow strokes. Then I slowly increase my tempo and beats per minute. By doing this, and I do mean painstakingly slow, I am teaching myself to keep proper bow placement, pressure and it stops the squeeking and pitch raising/lowering. Also, i am able to start keeping a beat with my foot or by "bobbing" to the music. So, keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us.

Good job, Toni. You picked a tough song, keep at it, practice and practice, play it until you can't stand it anymore, then play it somemore.

Thank you Steve... :)

John... Only three notes slurred.  I need to go back to the sheet music and slur where I am supposed to.  Thank you.

Tyberius.... You are so right.... I  need to go back and play slower.  Maybe sections at a time. Thank you for the motivation.

For me it takes about 50 hits of the suck button and I still blow. A day passes and it takes another 50 hits, another day gone, maybe 45 hits etc until I reach a point of comfort with the recorder and with the song I want to record. It takes not only desensitizing yourself with the fact that you (not you, in general) look and sound aweful and you dont want to put it out there, but also the recording itself is so not normal. Makes you wonder how the news people can be so comfortable on camera.

You Dont look or sound horrible by the way, but you are always your worst critic. Give yourself the time it takes to be comfortable with the camera, memorize the tune so you dont have to think about it. Play the tune while looking around, walking around, talking to someone. (very hard, not there yet but it shows a level of playability where  you really know the song). Of course you work full time and dont have alot of spare time. Keep at it! Great job.

That is such a nice tune to play on the violin> and you did a nice job of it. Its great to put a vid out of yourself like that playing. I will be putting one out soon > soon as I can get a few more notes out. Takes time and patience to put a vid out. I really enjoyed it and it encourages me to put something out there and throw myself to the wolfs. Looking forward to seeing more vids of you playing coolpinkone.

Not bad at all pink! Actually sounds good to me. You will get even better the more you play it.

Thanks for posting that, you know we love videos!

Great job, Toni! Kudos for tackling such a difficult and beautiful piece! Sounds good.

thumbs-up

It looked to me like your left hand was pretty comfortable. The camera angle was good for watching bow direction. Sometimes you were nice and straight and sometimes you wandered a bit.

Those are just observations. I know we really should offer solutions if we're gonna point out problems. Unfortunately, I'm still struggling with bow control myself, so it's hard for me to offer advice on that.

I think others might say that it could be caused by your arm movement, if you're moving more from your shoulder than your elbow.

We can't see your arm though. For your next video, you might consider turning your phone or tablet so that you're shooting in horizontal format...or just stand back from the camera a bit...so that we can see your arm.

That's all I have. Hope it helps. Again, great job! 1st-place

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

Sounds  good to me. yeh , bow wandering around . I have that problem to. Sometimes I just do boeing exercises while in front of a mirror. Seems to help a little.

Nice selection on the song.thumbs-up

Rob..I like your tips about getting comfy with the camera.  Been camera shy for many years.... but I like the part about getting comfy walking around etc.  :)

Thanks for the help and comments.

@ Stonedog... thank you.

In the very beginning I put up screechy scales and was fearless...something vulnerable after a year.. raised bar and a high level of "freak-out-ed-ness" when the record button comes on.

I hope to see you play soon.

@ Scotty..thank you. Means a lot. :)

@ Diane.. I agree about the shoulder movement vs elbow.  I really appreciate that feedback, because that is another thing I tend to forget.

Thanks. :)

@ Late...thank you.   When I watch my bow..it behaves... when I focus on other things... it wanders... I have to do that bowing in front of a mirror thing.. I just have to suck it up and do it.

@ Kevin... thank you.  I do put a lot of my feelings into my playing.... My feelings are sort of jumping up and down shouting at my arms and fingers to "get it right".  Thanks for the note.

Toni
