How can I get a video of myself playing to be on here from YouTube? Then it would be easier for others to watch it, right?

Record your video just as you usually do, and, if you haven't already signed up for a YouTube account then do so (it's free).   Then upload your video to youtube, and once it is processed and "live" simply go to that page (it will tell you, it's just a link to click) - and when you're there and can see your video - copy the information in the address bar - and paste it into your post in this forum....  Yes - it is easier to watch in general - and - it also keeps large files off the FM server (LOL)

Yep, just post the address to the Youtube video and it will automatically embed.

Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

Actually, not to contradict my good friend @BillyG , but it's better if you grab the link that appears when you click the Share button under the video. When you grab the URL from the address bar, it may only appear as a link and not embed the video. Or, in some cases, for some reason, folks can't view it at all.

Also, if you don't want your video to be searchable and available to anyone and everyone on YouTube, set your video as "Unlisted," but not "Private." If it's unlisted, anyone with a link (like us!) can view it. If it's private, only you can view it.

Hope that helps!

Oh - that's interesting... LOL @kindascratchy - contradictions are absolutely fine !  We're always learning from each other...    Hmmm was certainly never aware of that - maybe the behavior is browser or platform dependent ?   Possibly....  I'm now confused...    LOL ( no, not really Diane - it's all good ! )

I'm really not the one to ask....... but- maybe (?) your bow is playing too close to the neck.  It's hard to tell from the video, that just what it looks like to me.  I noticed how you did a fine job with the punch bow (that is what I'm calling it until I learn what it actually is) note.  it is such a great song- I have to try it !!  (and, yes- you totally deserve a badge- and you will get it !)  1st-place

@Leana I have that tendency to "wander" the bow away from the bridge. Then it sounds terrible, scratchy like.  What do you mean by punch bow?  Thanks for the input   :-)

Punch bow-  at the 19 second mark, you drop the bow on the note-  I believe that maybe you didn't do it on purpose, but it actually makes perfect sense to me in this song.  It's a creative thing- that works.   :)

@Leana Oh thanks for defining it for me. I didn't really do it on purpose but it's something I'll keep in mind for the future.

@Fran and @Leana - check out this wiki article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.....techniques

I found I had to "explore" some of the things I was doing when bowing, there's lot on the forum here in FM's demos - but the wiki page above gives a "reasonable" quick description and summary of different bow techniques....   when you suddenly find yourself bowing something in a "new" ( to you ) way - well - it's probably been done already and has been given a named-technique LOL - it's all a road of discovery....

Hope that helps...

Nice job, @Fran ! Your intonation sounded good to me. It's hard to tell from the camera angle, but it seems like your bowing is fairly straight.

Since you asked for suggestions, two observations:

1. Your bow looks a little too tight. A slightly looser bow might smooth out the tone and prevent bounce (I didn't see any bow bounce, however).

2. Try using more bow. I am usually guilty of not using enough bow, myself, though I tend to use the upper half of the bow. You seem to stay more toward the frog.

Major kudos for smiling while playing. I am totally incapable of that. :)

@Fran How about tilting the bow away from you when you start the bow at the frog?

I learnt from others that this will use lesser bow hair and thus lesser impact on the strings and sound smoother.

I agree using more bow as suggested by @KindaScratchy

@KindaScratchy and @fulfillingsoul  Thanks for all your suggestions. How does one know how tight to make the bow?
