Please begin by telling us anything you would like to about yourself. Age, place of birth, residence, etc. Age: Grown-up (well, mostly); Place of birth: Kansas; Residence: Kansas; etc.: Married with a 6 year old son and a 9 year old daughter

What made you decide to play the violin? My grandfather was an old-time fiddler. He left me his fiddle when he died in the hope that I would finally learn how to play.

How long have you been playing the violin? I started playing this spring (2012). So at this point, about 3 months.

How often do you play? How long are your practice sessions? I play whenever I get the chance. Practice sessions are limited by how much housework needs to be done and how much attention the kiddos need.

In your opinion, what's your proficiency on the violin? Absolute total noob!

Your greatest personal experience with playing? The first time I tried to play my fiddle, and it made notes instead of skronky noises.

What other instruments do you play? I had to learn the recorder in school, but never kept it up. I also tried to teach myself to play piano, but then I had…

Nice to read your story.  Working for the government in land management, woiuld that be BLM the same ones who auction off the mustangs?  If so put in a good word for me so my application is aproved and I can get a mustang this year.

I loved your Red River Valley and started to play it too.

What or who has been your greatest influence? Children. They seem to understand that music is more about enjoyment than perfection.

This is worth gold! Loved the interview Didi, and the picture is so you with your enthusiasm! heart

i look foreward to everyone of these interviews.  you get to see what drives everyone.  You realize that no matter why you play, what you play, or who you play for; everyone has a reason that comes from somewhere deep inside.

gotta love your enthusiasm for playing! That smile is worth a million... I know you'll do a good job with that fiddle... it'll be like Gramps is right there holding it for you as you play... what a connection to your family history you have...

Me too... I know how you feel about it... ain't it wonderful?exactly

I thouroughly enjoy chatting with you on Fiddlerman and I also enjoy your posts and I love you enthusiasm!  I loved getting to know more about you via this pos and I look forward to counting you as another of my new friends here on Fiddlerman.com

I wish I had anyone in my family to inspire me and my music.  I am the black sheep.  My dad was a mechanic, my mother a secretary and all my siblings are just computer geeks.  I am the only one in my fam with a love of music.  So I guess my hope is that I will be the one to inspire my kids to love the arts more than the xBox, Wii and Playstations.  I hope I can inspire more than them, but if I can at LEAST get my kids interested in something like music...I consider that an accomplishment.

Hi Di,
One of 2 good things about coming back from a vacation in Italy was to read this great article about you.
Can't wait til we meet up on a Fiddleman camp. I'm off to YouTube to check your progressbanana

I was born with nothing,
and to my surprise I still have most of it left!

Will there ever be such a thing? If so, sign me up! bananadancingdancinbunny

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

I've talked about it. Anyone want to start a committee for this in the future. I think I will need help organizing and spreading the word.
