Any violinist or violist no matter what level, is invited to learn the parts and participate in the Fiddlerman's international Silent Night group youtube project. All the parts for the project are available for download below. Your videos will be due sometime around the second week of December. :-)
Participating members will record themselves individually using an upcoming click track and send the files to Fiddlerman who will create a memorable combined youtube video that you can share with all your friends and loved ones just in time for Christmas.

Download the appropriate part or parts and learn them as well as you can. Participate in learning together with other members if you like via our forum. Post demo's of yourself for critique, feedback, or just for the heck of it. If you have problems listening to the MP3 files on this page, simply right click (control click for Mac) on the file and choose "Save Link As" to save and play on your computer. Present tempo has been set to 60 bpm but may change (depending on incoming opinions) before the click-track is complete.

Record yourself using the soon to come click track in ear (not audible on the recording) and SPREND the…

but the one who needs the least."

Sounds good, Pierre!

What a coincidence that you picked Silent Night. My teacher asked me to play with him and several other of his students at midnight mass on Christmas eve and he wants to do Silent Night as our main song. (We may do one or two more.)

I'm sure this will be another great Fiddlerman.com group project!

I'll be there. Oddly enough, I was practicing that very piece when I noticed this post.

I'll do a violin 1.

But will have to learn how to "clicktrack' and 'sprend'.

Wonderful piece!!!  I was actually just "re-learning" this one a couple of days ago, off of the sheet music found here!

.....now if I can either figure out a couple of other songs by ear or find the music, I'll be golden! :D  Anybody else know Jingle Bell Rock or Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer???  LOL

Hello Everyone,

I am really looking forward to trying the group effort out for the first time with Silent Night.  I am new to the violin but I think I will be able to add a few tracts.

All the best,

Gy

What is the deadline for the submissions? I would like to participate, but I have my requiem concert in a week, and as soon as that is done I am working on 5 other pieces for a Christmas concert, and some other miscellaneous things I am working on, but regardless.

The point is, I am kind of booked musically right now, but would still like to participate xD

EDIT: I know it is ~Second week of December, but I am the kind of person who likes hard deadlines :P

Stop saying you can't do it and actually go try it... Trust me it works.

You can record with any recorder whatsoever. Even a phone with video will work.

What do you guys think of the tempo that I chose? Right now the MP3's reflect 60 bpm. I want to make a decision on tempo so that as many people as possible can practice with the click track. Please give your input on tempo.

I reckon that the tempo is a bit slow. There some very long bow strokes there that the beginner (and me) may find difficult to sustain.smile

Agreed.

Oh, and hi again, everyone! Just got a mail from Pierre and decided I had to get my fingers back in here. And what do you know: a brand new project! Fantastic! I look forward to getting back on track with this. heart

Fiddlerman, I listened to 60 BPM on a e-metronome and I do agree with Ferret that it's slow for that song.  Beleive me I'm commenting as still a beginner.  I feel it better if it's a bit quicker... 70 or 75 and it started feeling "righter"...  if that's a word.... any way, I'm in... I'm going to wear some kind of Santa suit or Scrooge get up like I saw some people doing last year, and had found the site too late to join in.  Great you're still offering the awesome fiddler community (even though I apologize for being so absent this summer..)

Before I noticed the link to the sheet music, I ran into the other room and tried to play it from my sheet music. Sight reading first time dry run not bad. And since the deadline is two weeks after the other project I'm doing, I'm gonna give this one a try too.

Pierre,

Re: Tempo - I also agree that 60 is a bit too slow.

75 seems about right, and more natural for this song. smile
