The Central Indiana Folk Music Society of which I am a member will be performing at -http://madisonchautauqua.com/about-the-festival/

I am so excited!!   Just last month I performed at the Indiana State Fair which was really cool, BUT Chautauqua?!

My great-grandmother used to give talks at a Chautauqua Festival in New York.  I don't know much about it except that she spoke about our Icelandic ancestors.

I did it!!  Yay, not nervous at all.  The groups plays so fast I messed up a ton, but by the last verse of each song I was able to play the tune at speed and not mess up!!  Another problem, we were not handed the fiddle tunes until 10 minutes before we performed.

Thanks @MrYikes ! My hubby was supposed to tape a bit of the performance, but didn't.  He is really not into all this!

I don't understand. You didn't have your own instruments with you?

Good old Berty was with me.  We had the 2 set lists, BUT didn't know which fiddle songs we were going to play!!  We play 3 fiddle during each set.  For the state fair gig I had the list of fiddle tunes and focused my practice on those tunes.  So know I almost have them memorized!  Many of the songs I have memorized I can play up to speed.

Almost memorized = almost up to speed!!

This group plays from sheet music.  The man I sit next to has played for 30 years and has all the music in his head.  He plays at lightening speed.

The bluegrass jam I attend plays from memory.

Never thought I would be using the words -   set list, gig!!!!

It helps that the people in the group are so nice.  I was complimented even though I messed up so much!

That's great that it's a nice group to play with :) I'd love to be brave enough to do something like that.

Sorry Schaick,

I misread that completely. :(

Also, why the heck did the quote misspell your user name earlier. I just noticed that.

Yeah @Schaick - been following your thread - well done and BIG congrats ! clapclapclap   ( by the way, I can't even start to pronounce "Chautauqua" - but I know exactly what it is... LOL - try asking a non-Scot to pronounce Milngavie hahahah - it is NOTHING like it is written !  Try "mill-Guy" and ye'll git yersel awffy close tae it - hahahaha ! )

I realise you missed the fiddle 9/11 get-together because of it - but @Barry and @Fiddlerman are arranging "FiddleFest III" - provisionally for 23rd October....    not been talked about much yet - and may be open to change - whatever - FiddleFest as set up originally by Barry was a little bit later ( into November ) - but keep your eyes peeled on the forum and Facebook for updates - would love to have you join in !

Once again, very well done, and glad it went so well for you thumbs-up  Awesome!

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)
