I have a great friend here in my home town that gives lessons.  Well one thing leads to another and I decide that I FINALLY need to learn how to play the violin/fiddle.  This is something that I have always wanted to do so I figured Why Not?

I have played the piano, clarinet and bassoon but never anything in the string family.  When my friend and I were talking the other day, he asked me about my piano lessons.  I was lucky enough to have a year with a concert pianist.  He approached learning with \"what do you want to play\".  I told him I was a complete nut for old show tunes...Rogers and Hammerstein, etc.  So that is what we did.  Me sitting at one of his 3 grands playing and singing my way across the South Pacific.  What I didn't realize is that I learned more in that year than all the years prior to that with all the other teachers.  What is really neat is my friend approaches it in the same way, so I'm very hopeful about this.  Of course this was 46 years ago (but who's counting, right?) so we shall see just how much I can remember.

I can't do anything about this until I retire in just a couple of years but I'm having fun dreaming and roaming the forums here for info.   I work a full time job and still need to for a few more years yet.  Unfortunately, I have a job that drains all creativity from me.  I also carve leather in my off time and even had to give that up.

I just hope now that I can keep the fire burning until I retire so I can really pursue this passion.

I saw something on facebook this morning that is so true...if you can't figure out your purpose, figure out your passion.  For your passion will lead you right into your purpose.

One never knows what is around the next corner.

Welcome aboard jkd. I hope you can take the plunge soon, even if it is only to screech around for a while on a VSO (violin-shaped object) until you can devote yourself to serious learning.

Welcome to the forum. I just finished reading Georgann's introduction and hope that you do too.

It's great if you can keep the fire burning but if you are going to do it, you have nothing to loose by doing it now. Sounds like you don't have much free time but strangely enough, it is possible to make free time if you care enough about something.

Glad that you found Fiddlerman.com :-)

You are right, Fiddlerman.    As I said before, you just never know what is around the next corner or what life holds in store for you.    Sooooo, I had a long talk with my teacher last night.  I told him about your site and he said  "What are you waiting for?"   He happened to be jamming at the little pub we were at and he promptly got out his fiddle and I had my first lesson right there in front of about 50 people.   It was weird, but I got so focused on him that I totally forgot they were all there.  laugh  He got me so fired up that I'm placing my order this weekend.  YEAH!!!!  I'm so excited.  Even hubby is excited.  I figure he will probably be taking some of your video lessons here when I'm at work.   So it is a win win for everyone as far as I can see.

Now off to see which one to buy!

Yay.  I'm so glad you are not waiting.  Believe me, the time can be made.  Heck half the time I am looking over at my dirty dishes in the sink while I am practicing.  Priorities you know lol.

Thanks!   Now when it gets here I will open the case and wonder just what the heck to do next.  My teacher is out of town for a few weeks so guess I will just pluck away and see what happens.   But I do know of a nice website that has some great beginner videos....LOL

Congratulations. That sounds like it was both exciting and scary (the thing with the lesson I mean). You have the right attitude since you dared do it. :-) Not everyone would have.

Hope you like your new Fiddlerman Concert Violin. :-)
We have a long weekend and a lot of orders to get out on Tuesday. Might even go over to Wednesday :-(

Hey no problemo, Pierre.  I'm just so excited that I actually took the plunge, I don't mind waiting.  I have to work all weekend anyway, so it is probably good that it won't be sitting here staring at me.   I'm hoping the OT at work will end soon so that I can get my life back.  Been doing it for over 9 mos now and I'm a little over it.  But it ends at the end of this month so that is good.  dazed  Then I plan to learn the fiddle, start doing my leather work again, start baking cookies and learn to decorate them (yes, yet another new project I have waiting in the wings...LOL) etc.  One new leather project will be something to go on my new fiddle case stating to the world that it is mine!  I can't wait for that.  I have it all planned out in my head.

Yes the public lesson was a little weird but OK.   It was kinda funny after wards the comments I heard.  Some good, some not so good.  Oh well, I just figure I gave those "not so good" people something to talk about.  What is that saying?  If they are talking about me they are giving everyone else a rest"   Yep, small town America never changes.

And as for "waiting dishes"....heck this is just one more excuse as far as I can see.  I figure if the excuse lists gets long enough, others in the household jut might kick in and help out...or not....crossedfingers
