I am not sure what to put here, but something is better than nothing so here goes.

I am Gordon Baker retired and over 70 years and have never played a musical instrument before, so if I do not log on every couple of days it is not that I have dropped out, just did not check in here.  I will try my best and maybe I will one day post something more.

I thought I would like to play the Mandolin, but a music teacher listened to me and eventually gave me a Fiddle. I have had one class and am trying, but my wife and the neighborhood cats are not appreciative of my efforts, that is not true, but it sounds good.

My likes are old time country and some bluegrass music.  I have heard some older fiddle music from years ago and now find that it was not the run of the mill music, so it may wind up that I can not play what I like.

I am here to give it a try anyway.  Learn to crawl first is good.  I contacted the Fiddler Man and he is very helpful as are some of the postings I have read here.

Thanks all

It ain't gonna learn to play itself.

Hi Gordon! I really respect you for learning an instrument from scratch despite your age. My parents are 50ish and have already lost all motivation to pick up new things facepalm. Good luck and welcome to the forums!

Hey Gordon,

It was nice talking to you earlier and I'm happy to see you here on the forum as well. All respect for realizing that you can learn something new at any age. My parents wouldn't take up a new hobby either m.k.... I look forward to assisting you Gordon in any way I can and reading about your progress.

Happy Fiddlin !!! violin_girlviolin-studentviolin_girlviolin-student

Welcome, Gordon! We're not all Spring Chickens here wink I love OT and Bluegrass, too, and I'm sure you'll be playing along in no time!

Gordon sc, welcome to the club, I took some lessons in Jr High School and before that in Elementary School.  Didn't have the dedication then.  At 63 I practice 5 hours a day.  I am learning from FM and I am so greatfull for all the help and encouragement I receive from all the members of this forum.  And we have fun along the way too.  We will all have to get together one day and have a geriatric fiddle down.  Welcome to the forum, you will enjoy it!

Shalom Shalom

PS  don't talk to Cat McCall, he will get to busy on building your own fiddle before too long!!!  LOL,  He already got me!  Oy Vey! thumbs-up

Hi Gordon!

I join everyone here in welcoming you and in saying I think it is fabulous you are beginning your fiddle experience (:

If you are looking for a particular fiddler, music or recordings from way back when, let me know- I'm 43, but grew up surrounded by the older country music and Bluegrass, familiar with it, and I have a knack for finding things on the internet and collecting tunes (thank God for huge hard drives!)- we are probably looking for the same music (:

Happy fiddling!
