Hi everyone,

I just joined this lovely website. It has helped me out alot already and I just started. A little about myself. I am a brand new beginner as an adult, which is awesome to know im not the only one on here. I can say the violin has posed a unique and awesome new challenge for me on my off time. I am in the navy, so finding time to practice can be interesting at times. but makes for a wonderful challenge and just adds to the excitement. I never realized how challenging it was to play the stringed instruments until i tried to play my first g string notes.....jokes on me... my wrist is still sore (much less hitting the right notes lol) . I look forward to learning to play, and hopefully get good enough to play for my family eventually. for now i try to leave my screeching strings where they can't hear me. my husband loves to joke about it :)  hopefully my horses won't kill me either since i love to play in the barn, when im stateside at least.

Welcome to Fiddlerman, Lindsey.

My horses don't mind me playing in the barn. I think they're tone deaf.

Nice to meet you, Lindsay! You're in good company here...lots of us adult beginners. Like you, I was very glad to find out that I wasn't the only one taking up the violin as an adult. You'll find, like I did, that everyone is very friendly and helpful here.

Very happy to have you here. Welcome to the forum.

Your horses will just have to get used to it. Whenever your husband stops joking you'll have a good indication of improvement. ;-)

Sorry to hear about your sore wrists, perhaps play shorter periods but more often in the beginning until your joints get used to the odd position.
Also, make a conscious effort not to use unnecessary energy and tension.

Look forward to following your progress

Welcome from another adult newbie.  Isn't it fantastic?

Welcome new friend! I feel ya on the sore. Ridiculous what a chunk of wood and a bow with hair on it can do to your body, lol.

Lindsay,

Welcome to the forums and to your violin. I'm sure you will enjoy both. I was in the Navy for 12 years. Are you on a ship?

That should give you time to have lessons and practice then.

Well I work about 14 hours a day on shift, and between husband, and horses time gets crunched but i usually manage to at least get in 20 minuets a day.  Thanks to fiddlerman I'll at least be guided in the right direction until i can match time zones and take some lessons, or find a good instructor here. :)

Are you taking lessons? I really recommend them because your teacher can help you improve faster and solve your soreness problems (if you have time). Just saying you don't have to because I'm just an inexperienced 12 year old.
