Just thought I would take the time to introduce myself. My name is Craig and just picked up a violin for the first time about a week ago.

I always wanted to learn to play the violin and at age 43, with a little help from my dad, decided it was time. My dad just took up banjo and we were playing around on it when I made the comment that I always wanted to learn violin. He looked at me and said \"Craig, if you wait till you're 72 like me it is a lot harder and you won't have near as much time to enjoy it.\" For some reason that hit home and I decided to give it a go.

I don't have a lot of music experience. Was in band in school but that was a long time ago. Played brass back then anyway, not strings. I hope my mind absorbs as least some of what the site seems to offer. If so I figure I will be able to make a sound that doesn’t sound like an accident soon.

I have really enjoyed lurking on the site for the last week and hope to be able to actually contribute to the conversations at some point.

WELCOME Craig!  Glad you decided to pull the trigger and join us!

Yeah, your dad is absolutely right, that's the remorse that a lot of us here have,,, that we started so late in life,,, but as you've probably seen FM say, "there's a time in our lives for everything"; so better late than never for us.

Hope you feel free to call on all of us when you need to.

That would be sooooooo cool to get to a place with the fiddle, that you and your dad could jam!!!!

Good luck

Hello! Nice story. I myself am 30 and just joined the site as well. I have the same sentiments as you. Hopefully we will do both do great! I think the fact that we are following one of our dreams is a positive thing.

Welcome Craig! This is so cool, maybe you and your dad will have a nice little duo here! You'll see learning violin is not as hard as most people think it is, you'll be playing some nice little tunes in no time! The first month is the hardest then it gets easier. Good luck! coffee

It's about time you went public in the Forums, Craig.

Craig is an old friend of mine, going back well over 20 years, now - but please don't hold that against him. He's about as good a fellow as you'll meet, and I have high expectations for his success with the violin.

Now get crackin' on the "Devil Went Down to Georgia" you said you'd be playing by the time I visit in August...wink
