Hi everybody. My name is Jason and I'm living in Oregon (which in on the West Coast of the USA for any international readers). I live in a semi-rural part of the state right on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Right now I'm finishing up my schooling to become a registered nurse. It takes an incredible amount of time and causes me a great deal of stress, but I guess it's worth it. tongue

I'm not totally new to FM because I've been hovering around the site for a month or so gleaning information and making the random post here and there. So, I decided to formally introduce myself. I have found that I love playing the violin more than I guessed that I would, which is strange because I also find that it is the most technically difficult musical instrument that I've ever played. Luckily, I found a great site online where a professional violinist will teach you to play the violin for free, and a whole community of players are waiting to talk about all things musical! I'm pleased to say too that I've actually been improving! I'm not where I want to be yet, but then again I've only been playing for 2 months... but I'm getting better all the time. Thanks for all your help everybody, without this site, I probably couldn't play (or read) a note!

Hi MrBison

Welcome to the community. I'm new to the site as well. I can relate to the stress in your field, having been in nursing for several years, but not presently. But the rewards are considerable. I think you will find that learning the violin will help you focus and relieve some of those jangled nerves. Best wishes in your endeavors! smile

Very Nice to meet you. I can't say enough about nurses.  Anytime I'm in the hospital they are a life saver.  You will find the violin something to turn to when you are stressed out from the pressures of the day. Keep studying both nursing and violin.

Welcome Jason,

It's nice to officially meet you. Glad to here that you are advancing. It's like building a house. Build a nice foundation and you'll have less troubles along the way.

@Mad_Wed

Regarding playing violin to relieve stress, well, I know what you mean, as it can be frustrating at times, and especially at first. But I think you have to entirely focus when you are playing, and that keeps all other thoughts out of mind.  I saw your video, and I hope to play that well one day. Nice long bow strokes and confidence. Keep going! cheerleader
