Hi, just found the forum while searching the net for other musicians to talk to.

I just picked up a violin again after a 10 year break; i learned to play in high school and was a member of the orchestra.  Back then i played a 3/4 cheap piece of junk (i'm a tiny little woman and was an even tinier 13 year old when i got that violin).  That one was broken several year ago by my brother and his friends thinking they could play it like a guitar.

Last week i went to a music store and rented another 3/4, which i am exchanging for a full size tonight.  I've been noodling around on it all week and letting my fingers remember how to play, the only music books i brought with me (i emigrated from the UK to the US) are show tunes and music film scores but it's been fun.  All in all i'm enjoying rediscovering this instrument.

Welcome, mischa, I think you'll like it here, soooooo many nice people and very helpfull too. It's great that you rediscovered the violin again after all those year's. There are many of us here in the same boat. I myself played in the school orchestra from just before I started school until I was about 10 and then didn't play for many year's. I have picked it up several time's over the last 58 year's but never stuck with it, until now when I found, Fiddlerman's website.

Anyways,, welcome again.  violin-1267

Hello and welcome!

If you want other musicians to talk to, you've certainly come to the right place! Everyone is very talkative, supportive and funny here. For me as a newbie player, this forum is a never-ending source of education and inspiration!

Since you're a returning player, I'm sure you be great again in no time. Enjoy the ride! coffee

Welcome mischa91

Happy to have you here. You must really enjoy the difference in sound you get with a full size violin.

Good luck finding the motivation to keep it going this time. Usually for most it is much more rewarding the second time around.

Thanks for the lovely welcome!

I didn't get a chance to exchange the violin last night but will be doing it tonight.  I've also been searching the net for one i can purchase after the 2 month rental is up, i can continue to rent but if i'm still enthusiastic after 2 months i'd prefer to buy.

I'm really surprised how much i remember and easy i've found it to get the proper hand position/bow hold back.  When i go back to the music store tonight i'm going to see what sheet music they have and maybe treat myself to a nice classical piece to work on.

I also mentioned to my mam i'd started to play again and she said she might be willing to contribute some money if i wanted to take a few lessons.

Hi!

It's great, must be like riding a bike :)

I hadn't thought to look there so thanks for the link.  I've printed off 'swan lake' and 'in the hall of the mountain king'.. the last because i remember playing it in orchestra practice and found it very entertaining.

Quite possibly.  I'm off on vacation for 10 days in a few days so it'll be a while before i can record anything.

I also got the full size violin the other day and it's strange, my hands muscle memory is so geared towards the 3/4; but i tried out some Christmas songs and they didn't sound bad.
