I asked our new friend Jim if he would like to do a similar project to Barry's learn a new tune every week, weeks or month and he gracefully accepted. I expect he'll be jumping in here anytime to teach us this months, or weeks, Irish tune.

Stay tuned for Jim. thumbs-up

That's awesome, thanks for asking him FM. As I posted, Irish music is pretty much all that I'm going to work on this year. I can't wait! I have a few Irish lads here in Laguna Beach that will be posting here soon too. We were rocking out on some Irish songs this morning. My neighbor up above me just hates music. Pounding on the floor (my ceiling) again and again trying to tell me to shut up. He keeps calling the cops and our landlord and they just say, "Scott can play his music between 8am and 10pm. I really need to buy a house in the woods somewhere ;-) it's not even a stereo or surround system anything like that, just a violin and an acoustic guitar. When I go electric loud I go to the studio.

I'm happy for the project but won't participate, I'm not a fan of irish violin but I know many on this site are! So I wish a lot of fun to everyone. cheerleader

Yep, Mad Wed, I learned that Red Wing song too and was sad to see Barry left for the 2nd or 3rd time ;-) I'm not a big fan of those songs on the time machine thingy that he wanted to do every month. I just don't have enough time to work on so many styles of playing. I live in an Irish community here in Laguna Beach and have been asked by many pub owners to do some solo Irish gigs and that's what I'm going to work on this year.

NV… we all have our own tastes of music I'm sure you will have fun with He's a Pirate and I bet FM will come up with many classical projects. Bring on the Irish Jim! I'll participate on that!

FM that would be an instant win with me lol.

myguitarnow, exactly my thoughts, I'm glad Jim is doing this because I know a lot of you guys and gals love irish violin! I'm not saying I don't like irish music that would be a lie (have a couple CD's of traditional irish and even scottish stuff), just prefer them on the pennywhistle lol. cheers

I'm thinking I might do St Anne's Reel or The Merry Blacksmith.

I have one of my own tunes, called, "I Closed My Eyes And Kissed her, And When I Woke My Teeth Were Gone".

Maybe leave that one for later :)

I'm aiming to have a little reel up here by the weekend.   dancing

I love your sense of humor Jim!

BTW I also loved the name of your violin concerto. Surprised no one commented on it!

This is great news!!  It will be a good opportunity for me to get back in touch with some of my heritage!!  I've always been partial to old Irish/Celtic/Folk tunes!!

Jim, if you do Le reel de Sainte-Anne I'm in! It's not irish though it's french canadian, composed by our prince of fiddlers Joseph Allard in 1929 and I really want to learn it (part of my culture). I'm not asking for you to teach it fist though, but when you are ready for it I'm part of the fun! violin_girl

Love that footer NV and FM sorry you had to remove all those posts of me and Joe having a texting fight. Us Irish folk love to sing and dance and pick up any instrument around us to play but man, try to pick a fight with us? We don't understand the meaning of refrain. I've had to say I'm sorry a few times on this forum and from now on if someone gets negative, I will just ignore it and go hit my speed bag instead of being negative right back ready to fight.

OK, I'll do Le reel de Sainte-Anne. Hey, we have this French wine joke over here. Hope it translates : "Le Francais adore, le Pee at Door"  roflol

Jim

PS Which version of the tune do you want? I normally do version 27, revision 1. (a)cheers

It's nice but I dunno it's hard to explain, irish music (not the slow songs mean you) feels too chaotic? As if there was too many notes for nothing I dunno, kinda obscuring the melody, too many triolets? I dunno how to explain it exactly. But slow irish music is beautiful and vibrates fine with me. Like in this video it's beautiful. Actually I need to find the scores for this song.
