As a beginner, I've found it useful to focus on a single "tip" during a practice session.  I thought it would be fun for everyone to share some of their favorite tips, one per posting, then others could vote on those tips, or post their own favorite tips.  I'll start by adding a few of my own favorite tips.  Remember, one tip per reply, and give star ratings to the ones you like!

Keep left hand fingers close to fingerboard, or even holding down lower notes when possible

Practice in front of a mirror to keep bow perpendicular to strings, and in the desired "lane" (distance between bridge and fingerboard)

For small-handed or short 4th finger people... rocking hand slightly forward (almost vibrato motion-ish) using middle or 3rd finger as your pivot point to reach 4th finger note.
