Sul Ponticello is the term used to describe the effect that comes from playing a stringed instrument such as a violin, viola, cello or bass extremely close to the bridge without too much pressure and fast enough so that the string doesn't vibrate too much.

Ponticello is frequently used to make music sound spooky and metallic. Ponticello is yet another effect that one can use on the stringed instrument to add a very different and interesting color to the sound. Learn how to play ponticello and hear how it sounds with this tutorial.
