well tomorrow Jan 25 my violin will be here. i am so existed i fell like its christmass.i suppose after rosin the bow first things i should practice is straight bow draws and the scales as in your videos.if any thing else would be good to know. tryed reading sheet music. but note under and above the normal  bars confuse me.i do the f.a.c.e and e.g.b.d.f but when i hit the note i think it should be, i get the buzzz your wrong...but if its in the normal 5 bars i get it right..but i suppose some work on that will be on going.thumbs-upviolin-student

Exciting for sure. I hope that it's a good one. We know that the price was right :-)

Hey 1968, you'll get reading notation down. Besides thinking of the notes within the staff bars as "Every.Good.Boy.Does.Fine. - F.A.C.E." Just look at the notes on the sheet music and know there are just 7 letters in music and they are always written in alphabetical order. So the notes on the staff lines are E.F.G.A.B.C.D.E.F. (read in order on the staff from down to up)

&______________| F

                             E

&______________| D

                             C

&______________| B

                             A

&______________| G

                             F

&______________| E

So when you go above or below the the staff lines keep all the notes in alphabetical order. Example. the highest note on the staff is an F so the first space above the highest staff line is a G, next up with a little staff line A and so on. Same as below the staff lines. E is the lowest staff line so the space below that would be a D then C then B, A, G, F. (my insomnia kicked in tonight - Time to play my e-fiddle at 2:15am).

Wco...
Congratulations.

I have only had my violin a bit over a month. It it a Franz Hoffman, concert violin. It is a rental....but I really don't think I can ever give it back. I love her so much. I will be buying this violin.

I still will buy a cheap pink one also...simply because I must. :)

Happy bowing......

LOL coolpinkone,

I can get you the pink one too. I just didn't put them up on Fiddlershop.com yet. Let me know if you are interested. Which one are you considering?

Great idea. Just buy it and put it up on the wall with one of my wall hangers. That is cheaper than most artwork you can buy today. smile

I am buying a new violin. I will get either the Fiddlerman Master or Soloist violin. I think that they sound really good. I currently have a Gliga Gems 2.

I've tested and played a Soloist and I can certainly tell you they are a quality piece. You won't be disappointed with that violin.

The other one I'm not familiar with and haven't done any testing on so I can't give any input for it.

Welcome to the family and I hope everything here is of use to you. There's a lot of us here that were beginners just like you, so feel free to ask anything...we've all pretty much been there-done that so we can easily help.

congrats on the new violin, whichever you choose.
