Finally!  Finally!  My violin finally arrived!!!  (insert dance of joy here). I was so excited that I pounced on the poor delivery guy before he even ran the door bell.

So after about an hour of 'playing', I came to a couple of profound conclusions:

1.  I suck

2.  I am trying really hard to resist the call of fretboard tape but it is stressing me out

3.  There really are phone apps for everything (I downloaded one to help me tune my violin)!!!

4.  Oh, and did I mention that I suck!!!!  Bleh!  I'm hoping that it's normal for a beginner to make her poor violin sound like the new cast member on 'Dexter'!  :(

Well, I had fun at least.  Just super glad to have my violin and be playing!  Yeah!

@ Cherie,,, it's very normal. Many of us think the brand new violin is going to automatically sound and play better. Remember one thing, they don't play themselve's, sadly enough we do have to learn to conquer the challenge.

Good luck with your new found friend and enjoy every minute of it.  crossedfingerspink-violin-girl

Wonderful news!

(that your violin has arrived, not that you suck!! Haha)

I was born with nothing, and to my surprise I still have most of it left!

Cherie it was the same for all of us! You have a lot of things to learn now, tuning, bowing straight with correct pressure to produce something else then squeeks, holding the violin. Give yourself a couple weeks :) Start with something simple and slow and use the fingering charts and your ear! In no time you'll be playing and will laugh of your first hour reaction!

And if the fingerboard tapes can make you relax and concentrate more on good bowing instead of stressing over fingering do it! You can always take them off in a month and many teachers from what I read/saw on youtube are for the tapes to let the student concentrate on more important matters!

I'm very happy for you I remember the excitement I felt when mine arrived also. dancinbunny

Congrats Cherie!  It's such a great moment to finally get your instrument [I remember that feeling well] that you're going to live with every day of your life. Have fun with your new little friend and enjoy growing together!

Congratulations! It's ok to suck. Try to focus on what you CAN do instead of what you are unable to accomplish yet. Have fun!

I tried to post a pic but I can't!  I'm not a complete idiot so I'm not sure why I can't figure it out.  :(   Sometimes, I'm not sure if things are me or my computer.  While I was working, my laptop got a virus that makes it behave like a cranky two year old.

But I got a Gliga Gems 1 (It is beautious!!  ;)

Did you uploaded the pic to photobucket or flikr or something similar? I don't think we can upload directly from the computer.

Try adding the pictures as an attachment!  That always works for me!

All you have to do is open the location where your picture is stored and "drag & drop" the picture into the reply!  blink

Glad to hear your excitement Cherie.

We are here to help you, "Not Suck".

Time to work now. smile
