Hi folks. I have some disappointing news. I was rejected at the music conservatory because there is an age limit to take the courses on violin. I am 6 years past the limit which is 25. I dont know what to do. Private schools are too expensive here and I cannot afford that for now. I am really sad about this whole situation. I guess life as music student is not as blissful as I thought it was.

That's a bummer.  I hope you're planning to continue on your own. You have talent and have put in a lot of work, as your playing shows.

Some things will unquestionably be more difficult because you can't attend that school, but if you focus on the end result you wanted, not the method of getting there that you had planned on, I think you'll still be able to find a way there.

Aw, that's disappointing. I don't understand age limits like that. Don't give up, though, I bet you'll find a way to keep progressing :)

Hello Juan: I just checked out your finger flexibility vid. You play beautifully and you're getting a great sound from that violin (what make is it?)

how 'bout this...get into or start a string quartet or duo or trio, and start performing, somewhere - anywhere. play what you're capable of and progress from there.

once you get something going, rent a small hall if possible and sell tickets. or look into finding a church for a venue.

So sorry to hear this, Juan. The conservatory's age limit seems unreasonable to me.

You play very well already. I'm sure you'll find other ways to further your education and will continue to progress and will ultimately show that short-sighted conservatory that you don't really need them anyway.

From what I understand, you are now a student at a music school in Montevideo. How do you feel about this?

@JuanFiddler Was it Destaoriya?

You could consider having lessons with a private teacher every fortnight, instead of weekly lessons.

Audem also offer scholarships, you could apply next year

Juan... I am sorry to hear this disappointing news.   If ability, heart and soul were taken into consideration, you'd be let in despite the age limit.  I know that was your dreams.

I am eager to see where your dream with violin goes now.  I am eager to hear all the great things of Juan Fiddler and the violin.  You've been such a good friend and support.

What is this new school ?  eager to hear.   Keep your chin up and like Pierre said, make some lemonade.

Lots of heart buddy.

Thank you all so much for your support everyone!!!

@fiddlerman yes Pierre I took a placement test at a private school in Montevideo. I have made some arrangements so that I can afford it. The placement was a great expierence I was asked to play a major and a minor scale in 3 octaves and to perform a classical piece of my choosing so I was went for Bach's air on the G string but in D major. The director and the violin teacher were very supportive abd gave great feedback. They asked if I wanted to enroll in the career of professional musician - violin option. I obviously said yes and just began yesterday. I am in 4th grade of violin playing yet in 1st grade in music reading and notation. I am really really happy. Thank you all once again

Juan.
