Hi everybody
Well in my case, I am the son of a musician. My father is a guitar and bass player. He played in a local band in my country for about 20 years. Now he has a new project, he is into folklore now. He is very passionate about what he does and so am I. He once told me, that i have inherited the gift of music from him
What I am always did from the age of 14 on was singing but never thought of taking up any instrument. Today I am 25 and a compelling interest for the violin was born. It is an incredible feeling knowing that there is one particular instrument that is waiting for me. Dad is very happy about me starting violin but somehow he knew along the road that I would end up playing some instrument, he just kept it to himself.
Right now, I found a violin teacher and I already had my second class. Truth be told I play sucky yet my teacher says it is a mandatory stage every person must undergo when first playing any instrument. So I feel positively about it. I know there are lots of variables on this instrument, it's very tricky and there are loads to learn but my passion for it is way stronger than the challenges it may offer.
Regarding music styles, well I am in touch with classic music because of the chorus I sing in so i know several pieces. I like to hear almost every style on the violin or fiddle. Now what i want to learn to play is Classic, Bluegrass and Irish fiddle.
If I were to answer the question: what style identifies you the most? I'd go with Irish music. However, I have no Irish roots. I am hispanic, I am from Uruguay South America. My native language is spanish and my second language is English which I've spoken for about 14 years now.
Anyways, becoming a musician has opened my mind a lot and a door to a new melodious world is now open :). Like they say, the first step is always the hardest so I am walking slowly not to trip so much ;).
Thank you very much Fiddlerman, you have been a great inspiration to me. Keep up the hard work with your violin teaching.
Sincerely,
Juan aka: Violinist_J.
