No flute option on there! https://fiddlerman.com/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif

I ticked piano and acoustic violin, but in the past I've had a go at bass guitar, classical guitar, steel string acoustic guitar, saxophone, cornet, baritone, penny whistle, clarinet. There may be others I can't recall at the moment.

EDIT: forgot the organ - electronic and theatre (pipe) organ.

Hi, you forgot a few that I try to play on.  Marimba, tympani, mandolin, tenor sax, alto sax, clarinet, flute, oboe, trumpet, recorder, hammered dulcimer, and I can get quite an interesting sound if I step on the cat's tail just right.
In the future I hope to acquire a bassoon, english horn, french horn, trombone, and maybe a bass guitar (I'm not certain about that one yet).

You forgot to add Bagpipes, Goose or Chanter.

With violins there is no fretting over the music.

So now that I've got your attention: The purpose of this was to try and decide if there were enough players who had enough experience on other instruments to do a project where the participant submitted a video of THAT other instrument in addition to the violin track that is commonly used.

So all those smart answers that were given... hope you practice on them as well and can submit a piece recorded from the best one you can play besides the violin. LOL

I believe there is a "Organ, traditional or electric" so go ahead and check that box Jim.

The purpose wasn't to make a 100 choice poll of every instrument known to mankind, but to offer a few of the most common ones that might be played by members here.

So I'm expecting you could submit some video of those Bagpipes etc for the next project huh?

I practice daily a half hour each on most of the instruments I listed, but its okay if you want to think of my answers as smart.  I don't do videos after a bad experience here.

Nice idea @cdennyb !

Still haven't ordered up my C tuned ocarina yet - that could be a hoot.  ( Or at least make some hooting noises! )    I just want one, for fun...   you know...   But been too busy, just keep forgetting to place the order...

Do you feel accomplished at those instruments enough to submit at least a mp3 sound track of them to accompany a project? Or, are you just bashful and shy?

Videos for projects are how we participate, I certainly hope one bad experience doesn't make you think ALL future ones will be bad as well.

No judgment here, do what you can with what you have. Play on!dancing

I've tried to play my little banjo-uke, and I've tinkered around as a little kid on a keyboard... but the only think I could actually count myself as being able to kind of play is the fiddle, haha.

Oh, and @MrYikes I agree with Billy, I hope you don't mean here on the forum :(

Saw the banjo wasn't getting any love, so I threw in a vote for it. My uncle dropped his off the other day and I tried to play Johnny Cash's "Hurt" on it. It was a little rough trying to sound it out since I had no idea what the tuning on it was, but it's a really fun instrument. I'd like to learn the mandolin and/or piano also.

ha ha @Fiddlerman

Nice poll and convo going on here.  It is always nice to hear what others are playing.  It is also nice to consider opportunities to hear others use their instruments for our wonderful projects.

@MrYikes  I am sorry to hear of your bad experience.  I have had that happen and sometimes that is just too hard to overcome. Sending good vibes for peace.

No mandolin?? dunno It's the same tuning as a fiddle, for heaven's sake. lumpy-2134rofl

Neither did I...didn't even see it in the list, I guess because the heading said "What other instruments do you play?" I just skimmed over the list looking for guitar, mandolin and penny whistle. facepalm

Nonetheless, great idea, @cdennyb ! I'd love to see a project with members playing other instruments, in addition to violin/fiddle. I'd probably join in a project like that, depending on what the musical piece is.

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

I've always played stringed instruments, Guitar, harp, mandolin, and of course Violin.

But last year for Christmas my husband bought me a trumpet ( one of my secret... one day I will learn it... instruments)   I've never played brass or wind instruments so the first sounds that came from it were..... Well, let me put it this way, my grandson got a whoopee cushion as a stocking stuffer, and his whoopee cushion and my trumpet sounded about the same!

ahh.... back to my violin!
