OfflineThanks to mister Kevin and his big heart (God bless you), my son Sacha received his own little 3/4 violin today! After replacing the bridge that fell and tuning it I realized there was also a nice little red velvet shoulderpad and the bow was already rosined!
When my son got home from school he was so happy to open the violin case. He asked me right away how to hold it. I asked him if he wanted tapes on his fingerboard and he answered: "No that's for babies"
He was also thrilled to see *made in Western Germany, stradivarius copy* on the label inside lol.
I let him explore without bothering him with bow hold to let him find a comfortable position. Then I told him to use his ear and showed him what fingers are used to play Twinkle. He started right away on it and after 5 min he wanted to record a thank you video for Kevin. As I write this I hear him practicing in the living room he is getting better already lol, he doesn't even squeal that much after 15 min!
Sacha asked me to write this: "Merci beaucoup Monsieur Kevin, je suis bien content que tu m'ai donné un violin, merci!"
Translation: "Thank you very much mister Kevin, I am really happy that you gave me a violin, thanks!"
His is offering you his first notes. He is a super shy little boy and always refused to appear on a webcam etc, so you bet this is serious for him!

OfflineWow that is so cool. First of all it's so cool that Kevin is so thoughtful and giving. Secondly, it's extremely cool that Sacha was so much into playing so soon. Let's hope he keeps up his interest.
Look forward to your duo

OfflineUpdate:
This morning at 9am he tip toed into my bedroom to ask me if it was ok to play his violin lol, he said he'll put the mute on.
He managed to play same first Twinkle part like yesterday on his first try without a mistake! Then went on for about 15 min, having fun trying to play faster, and at the end he found the right bow pressure to eliminate the squeals! Heck I STILL squeal when I practice! I have to record him in secret doing that I couldn't believe my ears, why do kids learn so fast it's not fair lol.
Now if I can only make him leave the old fiddler position… he play sitting on a foot rest, with one leg crossed over the other and an elbow propped on the high knee! Denise you would love that position I think lol. I asked him why he was playing like that, he said it's comfortable!
child logic!
He's good at learning by ear, I was practicing something simple this morning and mixed up 2 notes a couple time then went to make a coffee. Well he rush into the kitchen saying hey mom listen! and he played the darn tune without my mistake
You think I would get more coins in the subway with him playing and me passing the hat? lol ![]()
OfflineRegardless of who is learning quicker, you are both liable to pick up the instrument more often when you both are learning.
Fantastic advance in your life. Congratulations.
Be sure to play a lot of good stuff on the stereo, youtube, everywhere and everything you think can influence his interest in learning to play.
The more fiddle/violin he hears the more he will probably want to work towards the same goal. This is by far a much better way to influence a child than forcing them to practice.
If there are any young learning groups in your area, even Suzuki, it's really great for a child to see that other children are doing the same thing.

hahahahaha I have played like that, when I have been too tired and achy to hold the violin but just had to play anyway.

Well, he is definitely cute enough to charm all the passers by!

OfflineSacha is still playing, he has more time now that school is over, he doesn't have any fixed period to practice like me, he just pick shis fiddle and play when he feels like it. A very relaxed attitude hehe.![]()
