Eric, DO IT!!!!!!  If you haven't been to Cali, you've got to come see it before 1) we become Mexico, or 2) we fall off into the Pacific.

Clint, that is GREAT news!  Yeah, bring your own fiddles if you can; I'll have a few to lend, and as far as booze goes, bring what you like, or drink what I have, lmao!

Pierre, yeah, this is shaping up isn't it!

Terry; civilized or rowdy, no matter, we have several shovels and 5 acres, lol… but let's plan on civilized,,, there will be ladies and a few cultured folk attending.  It's best for you to fly into Orange County A/P (it's about 20 min.s from Anaheim [Disneyland & NAMM], an hour from LA, 90 min.s to San Diego, and 60 min.s from me).  The NAMM Convention is 1/24 – 1/26 and the bbq jam will be on 1/26, so why don't you plan your stay around those dates, depending on what you hope to see.

With such a great group, maybe we all plan to do a couple of things together; I'll take a couple of days off work, but even if I can't do something doesn't mean you all can't plan a couple of excursions.  Seriously, there's so much to do -

LA is fun, day or night (Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Melrose)

Disneyland in Anaheim

Newport Beach

Catalina Island

Temecula Wineries (about 15 min.s from where I live), they have hot air balloon rides

San Diego Gas Lamp District (restaurants/bars/nightclubs)

San Francisco isn't that far and it's one of my favorite cities for a weekend

Pierre and I are even planning to head to the local mtns for a day to snowboard with our sons, and everyone could join us

Btw, I've been thinking about this idea too that I wanted to throw out there for everyone.

So that our jamm is actually productive and fun; do you think we all should practice 5 or 6 of the same songs, in the same key, lol, so it will be easier, especially for us newbies, to actually play together???   I know there are a few of you who could improvise, at any moment, whatever anyone decided to play,,, but certainly not me.

What about some simple songs like, Bile em Cabbage, Oh Susanna, Amazing Grace, some of the ones that Barry has done vids of, etc..  Pierre, you certainly must have some good ideas for this right.

I actually thought of that. I wanted to see if it actually is going to happen first. We can organize something and all play and record together. Would want to give group lessons and work on it a while first. I also want to offer lessons while we are all there anyway so, free lessons as a incentive to get as many to come as possible. Those pieces sound fine.

We can post ideas and sheet-music right here on this thread. I can organize it all on one link. So please everyone who is interested just start brainstorming.

We see a lot of "fly-drive" holidays advertised in the US. If I can arrange one of those…….

be fun driving in a foreign country, especially on the wrong side of the road.

I was born with nothing, and to my surprise I still have most of it left!

Terry, American fly-drive touring,,,,, you mean like this…….

airplane-car.jpg

Yeah, if you fly into OC, there are so many great places for you to drive to.  Like I said, if you like snow, we're probably going to spend a day in the local mtns; driving up the coast to SF is a BEAUTIFUL 9hr trip; you can drive to Vegas in 4hrs; the list goes on…..

I'm in!!!… I don't think we should take it too far as including San Fran though even though it is very beautiful there too. Sounds like too much to organize.

I have 3 fiddles that I would borrow out no problem for peeps to use. And don't forget about Laguna Beach Fred! Lots of beach space here where we could sit and do our jam sessions looking over the ocean. Plus some of the best artists in the world are here if anyone is into checking out art galleries all within walking distance.

This sounds like a blast for sure. As far as the convention, I can't offer any tickets as ASCAP only gave me one pass for myself ;-(

Terrific Scott!!!  You've been on the list the entire time, lmao, I was sure you'd make it!  HEY, btw, I never saw you at the Summergrass festival a couple of weeks ago, I looked for you!

The only reason I suggested San Francisco and Las Vegas is to give people from out of state or out of country some ideas of things they just might want to catch while nearby; I AM NOT ARRANGING TRIPS btw roflol,,,well except maybe to the mountains.

VERY cool Kelly!  Yeah, for you it's a pretty easy drive out.  I once made it from San Diego to LV in 3hrs 35 min, lol; I think it's normally a 4.5hr drive.

If everyone who's coming will give me an idea of where they'd like to base themselves, I can list several hotels in that area.  Obviously you could just investigate it online, but my recommendations might help.

You may want to mainbase in Anaheim and just drive to my place on Saturday.  Or you may want to move around a bit during your stay; maybe Anaheim (or a beachy location in Orange County… as MGN had suggested, Laguna Beach is a trip), then Fallbrook (my town), then LA or San Diego.

The sharing accommodations would be a GREAT way of reducing costs!

Glad you can make it Kelly.

This list keeps growing!

Fred & daughter

Pierre & son

Terry

Diane & Hubby

Denny

Toni

Scott

Kelly (likely)

Eric (likely)

Clint (likely)

The more the merrier!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Pierre, what's the best way to keep a list of who wants to do certain activities, e.g., mountain trip, LA trip, San Diego trip, Laguna trip, etc.?  I'm just assuming that EVERYBODY who's coming to SoCal will be at my place on Saturday 1/26 right.

Hey, sorry to keep beleaguring this,,, but Barry just made a GREAT contribution to our little SoCal get-together, even though he's not able to join us, he started a great thread "Don't forget the simple tunes", that has some great ideas of songs for us to learn before we meet up.  Check it out and throw out your thoughts.

So far, I'm in favor of any or all of the following -

Bile 'em Cabbage

Amazing Grace

Oh Susanna

Will the Circle Be Unbroken

But a lot of you are probably more into something classical, so throw out your ideas.

some simple classical songs that sound good in a group are "Ode to Joy" , "French Folk song " and "Can Can"

All beginner level, easy to learn pieces that sound good

Perhaps there could be a SoFla Jam when you recover from the California trip? We could meet at the Cracker Barrel in Ft Lauderdale. Hint Hint…thumbs-up

That would be nice too Robert :-)

I don't know the easiest way but when the time gets closer I'll make a page with all the places of interest and a little information on them (with your help) and we'll have some kind of sign up smile

I will talk to my hubby (he just said yes!! so we are in) and daughter (7 years old by then) to see if they would like to go (I wanted to go! and they will probably support me:). So I will need the address to plan for hotel…

Daughter has to go to school (too bad it is not a week or two before) even if I could have time off. so the earliest time we could arrive would be Friday night.

To be honest, I play o susana (don't know what key, just play) and amazing grace (from FM's music), but my daughter does not play any of those. If those pieces are posted on FM's sheet music, we could practice.

Thanks for organizing this!

Hi Pky; you're talking about the SoCal not FL Jam right????  If you're talking about SoCal, that is awesome!!!  Where are you coming from???

I am soooooo happy to host the one day event at my home and I'll do whatever I can to coordinate other excursions.

Pierre, do you want to sign up as Music Director,,, you'd obviously be the most qualified, lol.

How can we do a sign up sheet for activities and have it linked to this thread?  And how can we gather people's favs for music; btw, I've got another, 'Auld Lang Syne' (very appropriate for January, no).
