As I'm learning some fiddle tunes I find myself improvising as well as changing some of the songs I'm learning to something I think sounds better. I was wondering how many of you just enjoy improvising tunes as you learn?
Do you start to create your own songs? I've also recently began piecing together my own pieces for fun. They are probably pieces I've heard through the years but it's been an absolute blast. I find it's really helping me improve my playing as well as keeping my motivation high for practicing.
Any fun things you've found yourself doing as your learning that 'breaks away' from the traditional learning's or pieces?

I doubt I'll be playing chamber music at all but if i do I'll keep that in mind
It really is so much fun to make the piece your own. I've found it's oddly really helped my intonation in first position. I'm still barely learning 2nd and 3rd positions but as I begin to experiment with the other positions the improvising seems to make me relax more and not get so worried about messing up hahah. I guess it's kind of become a coping as well as learning mechanism for me lol.
