Marcato on the Violin

Marcato basically means marked in Italian. The word is used instead of having to write many accents and is perhaps meant to be a little more forceful as well. The marcato accent should be a type of tapering or decaying attack. Avoid sustaining the notes as it would take away from the effect of marking the individual notes.
