A photo wouldn't do justice to the case I inherited. Here is a video:

Wow!  That reminds me of my old 20's era, German rescue!  I still have the wooden case and rosin "rocks" that look just like what you have!  I also have the wax paper which the strings came in!  Talk about a time capsule!

NoirVelours, I seriously thought that mitten was for cleaning! LOL  I've seen some mircrofiber "mittens" at the local auto parts store that were made for cleaning dashboards!  Ya know, that actually might help clean the fiddle near the bridge and under the tail piece! tongue

cdennyb, did that humidity tube come with the case??  I'm really considering something like that for my case now!

I love the stories that our cases tell in all these pictures!

Me too Mad Wed... I don't own a Tommy gun. My cases are normally empty. ;-)

Maybe I should try to be a little more serious around here....Maybe.

LOL, then you should see what's in my bass guitar case! devil-violin

Mad Wed, I started out like that.  But for some reason, I started collecting stuff here and there that helped me out!  Now, I think I need a bigger case after seeing everyone else's! cool

Total denial!  My cat actually looks forward to me playing.  He tries to lay inside the case even though he's way to fat! LOL

OK, This is so much fun that I have to join in. Had to take out everything so you guys could see. Normally it's all hidden away.

  • Two bows, one Nurnberger and one Fiddlerman. I stopped keeping all my bows in the case for risk of theft.
  • My violin - Jan Larsson, Lima, Sweden
  • Extra strings
  • Pencil and sharpener
  • extra rubber bands and pad for my shoulder-pad
  • Rosin - Andrea Solo Viola
  • Polish
  • Polishing cloth and plain cotton rag
  • Nail clipper
  • Aspirin right next to it.
  • Fitted earplugs with a 6 db filter.
  • Reading glasses (just in case, haven't needed them lately :-))
  • Someone's business card ROFL.
  • A steel practice mute that I covered up with the flap.
  • An extra concert mute in case I loose the other tourte mute.

I agree on the nail clipper, I lost my mid-long fingernails when I got my violin. I don't remember the last time I had nails so short! Have to clip them  to be able to play with the tip of the fingers. Less of a problem for the bow hold, though the pinky with long nail makes it hard to have a secured non-slipping position... and well, long nails on a hand only looks meh!

YEP, the nail clipper is a MUST for the violinist, unless you bite your nails.
It looks like a lot when I spread it out but when it's all packed away looks like nothing. I actually through out a bunch of stuff while going through what I had. Old rubber bands, business cards from musicians, old strings....
