OK, today I was on the shoutbox, chatbox, whatever... and I was asked by two people to make a video of the book exercise I was referring to that develops your muscle memory for vibrato.

Well, CatMcCalll and CoolPinkOne were very persuasive and here it is.

Sorry it's a little dark but you can see what's going on.

Try it and if it works for you great... if it doesn't, well, maybe you should try a different instrument...

Cool! Thanks, Dennis!

Only one suggestion about it: maybe your hand with the book could be turned clockwise? To imitate position of the hand on the violin's neck? So You coud train your hand make movements parallel to the fingerboard? dunno Like this:

If you watched the WHOLE THING, I made that statement near the end about rotating it so it was more like the neck position on the violin....

OK, since I posted a vid on "book practice" I've received lots of 'pokes to the back' pushing me to make one of MY practice. I've only been doing this for a month or two so give me a year and then we'll see if I'm any better or not.

So here it is.

These are just RANDOM notes and finger positions, I could care less if they make a tune or not, and I could care less if it's a 1/2 note off of key. The thing is to relax my fingers and get my middle finger to show my index finger how to do it but they aren't working well together and I'm going to have to have a talk with both of them. So, without further delay...

here it is... 2 minutes of cosmic trash.

Um....Dennis.. Maybe you should work on your scales at the same time that you are working on vibrato?

That video was pretty much a D major scale with Over the Rainbow flavor but you are hitting some wrong notes and that may hold you back some on your vibrato techniques. I am not trying to sound rude or anything at all like that... Only trying to help and I just think you should really start listening more. Hope this helps???jimi-hendrix

well, good points... but like I said in the post, they were just random notes and meant nothing. trying to think of too many things at the same time is hard on concentrating on the finger relaxing. OTR tones? well maybe my mind was wandering because it was one of the first tunes I worked on, guess that was my unconscious practicing too. LOL

I'll move on to integrating the scales into it just for you next time.

I'm (we are) still waiting for YOUR video, are you planning on waiting to post it until you play in a orchestra?  You're way ahead of me by months, so maybe if you put one up I can see some things I can incorporate into my practice. Hmmm?

You got more background because you play guitar and stuff, but still. I bet I could learn something from you by seeing it instead of just reading it.
