I would like to participate in the O Holy Night project but I am not familiar with MP4.  I have participated in other virtual projects in the past, just recording with Logitech camera and uploading video to youtube.  This time I would use an Android tablet to record.  How can I tell what the format is?  I may have to skip this project due to computer illiteracy.

I believe Android devices record MP4 by default. (At least mine does.)

@cantdance I have no experience with any OS's besides Windows and Linux so I may not know what the limitations/features an Android tablet might have.

In windows, most of the video capture software allows saving camera video to a file in several formats .MP4 is usually one of the extensions available. I use the Debut Video Capture software from NCH to record using a Logitech webcam and a SnowBall ICE microphone (I could use the build in mic on the webcam, but it's a bit far away when I record).

Try checking your capture software and click on save file and see if it offers different file extensions (mov, avi, mp4...).

Don't get defeated by this computer stuff, there's a lot of help available on this forum and I'm sure others with pipe in with details that are Android specific.

Good Luck and look forward to seeing/hearing you soon..

Though I prefer you sending MP4, I can convert your file if necessary. I've converted hundreds of files. It's just time consuming but I prefer that you send your submission than not doing so because of the format.

The reason I want everyone to use MP4 is because it's the most common, best compression vs quality, and when all files are the same my Mac won't smoke as much when mixing. :)

The surgeon general has determined that smoking is bad for you. So tell Mac to stop :)

It's very simple to determine if you're recording in mp4 format. Just look at the video file produced by your camera. If the file extension is ".mp4" you're good to go. If not, download a free program called Handbrake. It will convert almost any format video file to mp4.

Handbrake is a great program Gary524. Thanks for pointing that out to everyone. I use it along with MPEG Streamclip which is also free to convert videos all the time.

For the Christmas project, most complied to sending me MP4 video files but not everyone. I still took the time to convert all the videos rather than excluding them.

To be honest, after listing to Rascal Flats version I'm looking forward to that project.

Thankyou I was one who messed up and didn't not get it converted I had some issues arise that threw a monkey wrench in getting things done correctly thank you Sir.
