Here is a relatively easy recording system you can do in your own home. It's simple, he even say's that @4:00 minute's into the video.

Home recording setups these days can run anywhere from a few bucks (if you already have a computer) up to pretty much "the sky is the limit" so far as hardware and software.  It all depends on what you want and what you can afford.

Sure, but I have known of some people who actually had pretty elaborate home recording setups.  Some of them would rival what was in that vid.
