has the sheet music been posted yet? I have seen the sheet music in the shared sheet music section, but for the life of me no where near ready for double stops on the same string yet. Thanks Barry!

Did you people ever do Red Wing? I was looking through the thread for finished video and could not find it.

If you did, could you please post a link?

Thanks

I seem to remember that it was done. It might have been removed.

So looking back at the project, I now understand that Barry started the project but removed all his posts. Can't remember all the details.

I found this video that I did on the viola. Not quite certain why....

I don't like having unfinished projects but it appears that is what happened.

Oh wow! Thanks, @Fiddlerman ! I was learning that on my cello with the instructor before my current one we started learning “Happy Farmer” which is very similar. Her husband, who owns the music shop, said it was like “Red Wing” and found that music for us to do instead. It is a little more difficult than “The Happy Farmer”. I have been playing “The Happy Farmer” on my cello the past week as a break from my lesson material. When I saw this thread title, I was wondering if it is the same one. I like the tune. Sounds nice in the viola. Will have to download the viola music.

Thank you!

Hey, I remember this project! That's me in the two bottom panels, playing fiddle and guitar.

This one is near and dear to my heart for several reasons.

First, my grandmother used to sing this song to me when I was a little girl, when we were swinging together on my swing set in the backyard. If you didn't know, there are lyrics to Red Wing. And Woody Guthrie used the melody for his song "Union Maid."

Then, this project happened only about nine months after I took up the fiddle. I very much wanted to participate for the aforementioned reason, but the tune seemed complicated and the backing track way too fast. I created my own simplified fiddle part that left out a lot of notes. :)

Obviously, we didn't get many people to participate. Not sure why I did the rhythm guitar part...it wasn't really necessary with the backing track.

dunno

Now, seven years later, I play this tune a lot...on mandolin at bluegrass jams, on fiddle at home, and on guitar with my bluegrass band. In fact, I wrote some new lyrics to make it a birthday song that my band could play in place of the usual Happy Birthday.

Thanks for resurrecting this!

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

@Mouse a viola sheet is on this page http://violaman.com/sheet-music/ . I like this tune too. It does sound a bit like the Happy farmer.
