Sorry Martin. Didn't look at your profile name.

I don't think you would feel as though you made any mistakes if you were able to choose. :-)

That's a fine instrument IMAO.

Yeah I don't have any regrets. More options would probably just mean that I wouldn't of bought anything yet.

I also honestly think that the Kreisler is the best looking one you offer, even if the Ming Jiang Zhu might sound better. However my opinion is surely biased.

I am not really experienced enough to be dropping money on a Ming Jiang Zhu violin yet anyway.

Also Pierre, feel free to use any comments or pictures that I post on your website if you ever need them.

Thanks :-)

I'm not really saying that the Ming Jiang Zhu 905 sounds better. They are so close to each other in quality and sometimes one sounds better than another.....
They are both fantastic instruments but Ming Jiang Zhu is better known. Having said that, these violins come from his shop and the work is over-looked by him but not made by him. He further trains his luthiers and sees to it that they do great work but an instrument made by Ming Jiang Zhu Bench instrument costs $34,000 :-)
I would keep either instrument and use as my own professionally if I hadn't bought a Jan Larsson for $20.000 25 years ago.

I'm sure you would probably know better than myself, but I read an article about the Ming Jiang Zhu workshop violins that stated (at least one point in time) he would make would handle the violins and maybe even work on a small part of each of them if he could.

That is most likely true. I just meant to say that he doesn't do all the work for all those instruments. :-)

Yeah he would run everyone out of business if that were true for that price haha.

This may be a topic better suited for another section of the forum but since it relates to my GCV ill ask it here.

I like my fiddlerman cf bow. But also planned on getting another bow, possibly nicer or perhaps just another FM CF bow for back up. Do you think I would notice a great deal of difference between my FM CF bow and something like a Coda Diamond series bow.

Yeah I know big price gap, but when it all comes down to it its pretty  much the same material isn't it?

Overall I guess I'm asking do you think the GCV would benefit from a higher end CF bow? I haven't had the luxury of trying anymore than 1 or 2.

I have an NX and the difference between the 2 is certainly not worth the 6 times the cost!

You will be looking at slight differences for a lot of money. But I'm not against it at all. We have a few bows that we are willing to ship to you for trial. If you like them you keep them, if not, you return for your full money back. Unfortunately we must charge for shipping if you don't keep either bow. The cost is minor though. Call Fiddlershop for more information. Preferably from Tuesday on. Michael is off until then and I'm handling the shop on my own. :(

I want one of these instruments so bad, I'm considering robbing a bank next week.  Anyone know a good money laundering service before I call to place my order?

Never mind maneuvers, just go straight at them.

That's another beautiful looking and beautiful sounding instrument as well.

If you win the lottery, you should buy each member a new fiddle.smile

Maybe we should start a lottery pool for FM members and we all get new gear when we win...banana

I personally bought a GCV Soil 1714 copy from their retail store in Guangzhou, China. They had various copies such as the Heifeitz 1740, the Goldman, and the Kreiesler for me to test out but i found the Soil copy better suited for my tastes. very rich sound on both the lower strings and very clear sound from the higher strings. The instruments that i tried out however used higher quality woods than the ones offered by fiddlershop, but nevertheless, a great purchase. highly recommend

In case anyone is interested in string choice for their gcv it seems to react very well to low tension strings.

I went from zyex and a gold label E to obligato and a warchal amber E string.

Specifically:

Obligato: Silver G

Obligato: Alluminum D (I bought the one that is supposedly larger and warmer sounding)

Obligato Alluminum A

Warchal: Amber E

I have only had them on for 20 minutes and my immediate impression is they work very well on this instrument. The response, clarity, and warmth is EXCELLENT.

Although lower in tension someone listening told me it sounded louder. My GCV is finally playing like I want it too!

Someday you may even want to try Larsen Virtuoso strings. They have remarkably a lower tension with a more powerful sound. :)
