Yup, adding Forked Deer to my to-learn list, too. Sounding great, @fiddlinsteudel ! And thanks for the tip on that bluegrass site. Duly bookmarked.

Very cool. One recommendation, which I'm sure you are aware of, would be to set the band up on the opposite side of the lighting/windows.... You'll get a much better picture and closeups.

Great suggestion Pierre, unfortunately we didn't have a choice of where we stood ... I was curious though if you thought the change in crops/zooms added to the overall video or if I should just leave it as one shot. I didn't have two cameras going so this was all done from a single shot.

I like the zooming.  I have never heard The Squirrel Hunters.  Great tune!

By the way how do you pronounce Forked Deer.  I have heard it is Fork-kid Deer?  And there is a wild tale of the meaning?

@fiddlinsteudel

Your performance and singing are great! I enjoyed it! I sang a little - mostly children's song and it's hard.

Definitely like the zooming on the soloist. It makes the video way more interesting but perhaps the quality, resolution is lacking a bit for the best result. A digital zoom/crop is almost worthless quality-wise but obviously places the focus on the zoomed player. Still way cooler.  Good job on the editing. What program do you use?

Sorry Pierre I never answered you, I use iMovie.

Well the Colonels had another gig. This time, some great person shot some videos from the balcony instead of my low tech, backlit videos. :) P.S. Is it better to just keep  plugging new videos into this thread or make new threads?

I started classical when I was 4 quit in high school, and then took this back up like 13 years ago, so maybe in total 25 years ... I was much better technically when I quit (I could play in 2nd and 3rd positions no problem). And many of the last 13 years was spent never practicing just playing at jams now and playing with a  band ... I wish I had better spent my time ...

I think it's often the things that happen in our lives that make us who we are. You may not have been the fiddler you are now if you kept going. The pause may have been necessary for one reason or another.

So I might be there when I am the ripe old age of 85!  Although that comment "I wish I had better spent my time" gives me hope that I can cut off time by practicing!!

Thank you for sharing @fiddlinsteudel . Good going!  Looked like everyone was having fun! :-)  Very enjoyable to listen to and watch.

@Fiddlerman - That is probably true, I studied other styles of music maybe I wouldn't have found my way to fiddle music. But I do know that I lost a lot of technique and I wasted a lot of years not practicing :(

@Schaick Absolutely, practice deliberately every day, you'll get there very quickly.

@AnnyJ - Thanks we did have fun! It was a great show from  my perspective.
