Yesterday..I tapped this song out….sang it out…practiced…. today I practiced alone for about 15 minutes…then I did 10 full takes recording.  I keep messing up the slur at the end.  I am getting frustrated (nervous) so I am taking a little break.

Thank you Tomi…. I had a couple of early takes that I got close… I was going for one melody on time….. I will see what the teacher says on Friday.  I can opt out on this if I can't get it.

Looking at the music, it is in 3/4 time and the measure you are having trouble with has 3 1/16 notes ant 2 1/4 notes.  This would nean that tis measure has a total of 3 beats plus an extra 1/6 note.  The three notes slured together should count as one beat and be written as a triplet.  Hold your first finger down on the D string and while playing the E play the F leaving your first finger down.  This is a quick note since the three count as one 1/4 note.

Okay…I got ya Kevin… I have it in theory…but since I know it needs to be quick…I get a mental block so it is…

bow with finger down on E…..leave it there…keep bowing same direction…. put down F at the same time……keep bowing same direction and lift finger off F, keep bowing same direction… and change bow direction for the open d..(quarter) ..over to third finger on G….(quarter) .

Thank you…helps me to think of it more like that.

It's kinda like sneaking an F in there when the E isn't looking.

It's getting so close! Did your teacher explain how to count the "tricky" measure? You can think to yourself either " One-and-a, two, three, OR Trip-e-let, two, three." It's really getting good! You should be very proud of yourself! thumbs-up

Try playing three even quarter notes first along with the recording. E D C for that measure.
Those are three triplet eighth notes Kevin. But your explanation was great and very helpful otherwise. smile

sorry I called them 1/16 notes when they are 1/8 notes. I must have failed math.

That's the way to do it, Coolpink.  Steady relaxed practice will get a song in shape quicker than anything else I can think of.  The piece is coming along very well, judging from the sample recorded on the 24th.

For the triplet , I'm going to suggest something I might use in a similar situation.  Don't think of it as a triplet, just think of it as the word "true", but pronounced a bit silly.  Think of it as if someone was singing it like "troo-ee-oo".  They don't make the word any longer singing it that way, they're just trying to make it "sound fancier" or something.

You've got it sounding good, Coolpinkone.  You have to remember that you will hear any mistakes far more than any listener would.  For a listener, they go past so fast that they usually won't even notice.

It is also good that you are starting to think of what to do on the way home.  It wouldn't hurt to plan yourself a small celebration.  First recital is enough of an occasion to warrant some celebration.

a little something for someone who shall not be named that once again  who  asked.. "How long the others have been playing?"… "and well what if you don't play together on time?"… "and what if one is always trying to catch up to the other….?"

My reply: (very cool)….. um… we follow the notes and we play together it is simple…(yeah…I lied out my ……..)
