I can sure say that you have great techniques on the viola HC. Those ghost sounds haunt me too. You really have to listen to the music though. You are playing off key. Just practice to scales and I feel like a broken record for saying this so many times. I really think you will be rockin' well very soon. I heard that when you bowed the open strings at the end and that sounded very good. Do it over and over. I think you are going to sound great really quick. Your bowing technique is right on! Those ghost sounds are when your shoulder drops a little and the bow slightly hits the other string a little. That's what I hear.

That sound becomes when hear on your bow can't catch the string. It happens mostly on D and G (and C?) strings. Bow have to catch the string in the very beginning of movement. Try to to work on it with whole-length-bow strokes and make it as fast as you can (don't forget-whole bow!). That exercise gave me answer what i do wrong (hard to describe- easier to feel). Of course rosin will help
Update: almost forgot: i get that ghost sound when get close to the bridge

It's hard to imagine that it's been eight months since I last uploaded a "progress" video. Maybe it requires progress to feel confident about exposing myself this way.
In any case, as an apology for not participating in the "He's a Pirate" project, and also to serve as an additional "thank you" to the fine folks who provided me with the CVA-500 from the Violaman.com contest, I though I'd better buckle-up and upload a video.

edit: I can't believe I forgot to mention that the first time through is on the CVA-400 and the second time through on the CVA-500 you fine folks provided for me. You can clearly see that they are two different finishes and the rosewood/ebony fittings of each.

Me, in a former life. That's when my oldest was but a wee lad, and my hair was yet thick, full and dark as a raven's heart.
(Heh... at one point I was rocking waist-length hair and a full beard. I would occasionally get asked if I was the guitarist from SoundGarden.)
Good thing I didn't have a lumpy head under all that hair.
