Finally I found the time to record myself before week #5 ends cheerleader Warning: I talk a lot before playing 3 short songs, so it's like 7 min long but I make advertisement for Fiddlerman at one part haha. Concerning progression: intonation could be better but I think I have more flexibility in the wrist for song 2 and 3. So hard with no indication on the fingerboard! Lots of whistling on my strings, any advice? I tried pressing more on the bow, putting more rosin, bowing faster, can't get ride of it! I'm starting to think my bow hates Zyex strings lol.

You are doing great. What is that noise at 5:31 and 6:37? The whistling in your strings, I believe your soundpost needs adjustment.  I believe the reason you here it more with the zyex strings is that they are vibrating your violin more than the other strings.  Just a quick thought. Is your tailpiece touching the chinrest?

Keep up the great work on the violin.

The noise at 5:31 is my finger brushing against a string and at 6:37 is my bow brushing another string. The tailpiece is under the chinrest but they don't touch each other. I'm at a point I would like to try other strings or dark rosin to see if the whistling will be there also. Maybe my new rosin is too slippery, or maybe it's the soundpost like you say but the violin was assembled and ajusted at a violin shop and the soundpost ajustment was on the checklist.

Sounding good, NV!

With the whistling, did you have it before you moved the bridge back?

I'm using a dark rosin and I like it.  But the light rosin I used before may have been very poor, since it was what came with the violin.

I moved the bridge back to get less modulations! And yes the whistling was there before, it's since I started using Zyex but maybe my rosin is the problem? I started using them both at same time and my first thought was that omg this is slippery! Or maybe that rosin is not working well with Zyex? It's L'Opéra Jade, good review and not a cheap rosin at all.

Good! Don't really understand what particulary You mean by "whistling" and where it is. Was it like at 4:41? If so than looked like a next string, touched accidently by the bow and the finger, that holds the note on the other (played) string. Though, as for me sounded good!

And: "I look like I want to murder that music sheet"

LOLOLOL!!! rofl

Thanks for keeping us entertained, NV! thumbs-up Another well-done, funny video.

You're doing great! I was especially impressed with the first piece. You did a great job keeping time with the music on a relatively fast piece and your tone sounded good.

I didn't notice any whistling, but maybe I'm so used to hearing it from my own strings that it sounds normal to me now. laugh

The only disappointment was that I was hoping to see your new sofa!

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

I did not find a way to bring the webcam to the sofa! The USB cable is not long enough lol. Anyone know if those cables can be extended? Playing all comfy on a sofa is tempting.

You can buy USB extensions.
Here is a 10 foot cord for around $6

Pierre is hearing it but I think my ear is s-l-o-w-l-y developping and I start paying attention to details maybe I should not? lol I tried a new bow hold today it seems to help a bit, in fact it's super comfortable for my hand (russian bow hold) but since no one seems to teach it online (found nothing yet, just franco-belgian) I'm scared I don't do it correctly! I have more control over my heavy bow anyway! So back to trying many things until I get a better sound, I'll end up taking a lesson with Pierre cool
