So i wasn't sure which thread this should go in so admin please feel free to move it if you think it should be somewhere else, but since i play a piece of a song I figured it could go here....anywhoo......So I am currently debating upgrading my violin. I may possibly be going through a early mid life crisis and figured i should blow some money and what better way then on a new violin?! So as I try not to stress eat my way out I got a violin to try and after the initial happy dance of seeing it arrive at my humble abode I have now practiced on it for about one hour...give or take...and at this point i'm having a hard time deciding So i figured i'd enlist ya'lls help and get some opinions right out of the box! I have roughly 2 weeks decide and I'm already leaning one way but after having my other violin for several years i'm "used" to it and find it hard to break from the norm however my new violin is quickly growing on me....anywho. Let me know what ya'll think Violin A or Violin B?!  (sorry for my misplayed notes!!!)

Obviously it's tricky to judge on a recording, but fiddle B sounds more resonant and complex to my ears.

Do they both feel the same to play though? Maybe one feels more responsive and easier??

Just my thoughts.

Actually, it just occurred to me that if violin A is the new one, it probably hasn't been played in properly yet (it can take weeks apparently) so that might explain the difference.

IMHO B is the one I did choose.

With violins there is no fretting over the music.

Listened to it a couple times, and B stands out to me.

I'm in agreement on preferring violin B.   It just sounds "richer" with more complexity to the sound...  and a nice take on the first part of AF !  thumbs-up

Well the verdict is in! :D And I thought I'd do a video for it as well because it's a lot less typing :D Thank you fiddlerman/fiddlershop for all the time you've taken with me on this beauty!!!

Congratulations on your new instrument.  It sounds great -- although the older one sounds very good as well.

Awesome...  that is a GREAT idea.  It shows dedication to learning, and focus on a plan, excellent !

Wish I was as determined these days - "life" is getting in the way at the moment - and I seem to be caught in a cycle of repeating previously learnt pieces rather than something new - but - well - that has its advantages also because it gives me the opportunity to add variations and embellishments and so on - so it's not all "wasted time" by any means - and I'm calling where I am at the moment a "consolidation phase"

Looking forward to Greensleeves and future posts !  Thank you !  thumbs-up

Well that's not bad either. I find when I get super frustrated learning new techniques/songs or breaking bad habits I fall back into playing with old tunes I know to boost my confidence and remind myself  that I'm not a horrible player just one still learning :D hahah.  And 'Life' got in the way of my violin playing for almost 2 years so I know how that goes as well. somehow we keep trucking on and learning new things and slowly making progress regardless of the less then ideal situations. I just remind myself how bad I sounded when I first put string to bow and it sobers my pity party very quickly Or how many weeks I spent just learning how to play on the G string.
