I just recieved, via email, news about a new movie coming out in 2013.  The Devils Violinist.  It is a biography about Paganini!  And who is going to be playing one of the best violinists ever??  None other than David Garrett!  Here are a few sample pics for the eyes!

I can't wait to see it.  As i get more info...I will update this forum.  Release dates, etc...

I wish they would make a Vivaldi movie too.  Bring a little culture to the cinema for once.  (I still wanna see "Silent Movie.")

I guess if hes a reasonably good actor he could probably just fake the violin playing parts. I wish there was a great violinist they could use, I suppose Andre Rieu was too busy? I think that guy from highlander wouldve been a better choice, hes probably too old though. take what you can get I guess. (I wonder if they know about FM? He'd be perfect)

Well, from pics and references on Paganini, I'd think Garrett is probably a bit much of a "pretty-boy" for the role.  I mean, one of the few quotes you can fin on Paganini is where he said:

I am not handsome, but when women hear me play, they come crawling to my feet.

But eh.  Hollywood.  They never let a little thing like reality get in the way of using celebrity names and the potential box office profits.

"This young wine may have a lot of tannins now, but in 5 or 10 years it is going to be spectacular, despite the fact that right now it tastes like crude oil. You know this is how it is supposed to taste at this stage of development." ~ Itzhak Perlman

a little side note: the third picture shows a reference on a story of Paganini playing so hard that he broke 3 strings with only the G left, but he still finished the piece with that string...that must be how Paganini made one of his variations using only the  G string (Moses fantasy)

David Garrett is a great violinist but wasn't Paganini supposedly extremely ugly?
Is Garrett fit for that role?

Beauty is only skiin deep but, ugliness goes clear to the bone. How many viewer's are gonna know if ole "Pag" was a "hot hunk" or not. They can visualize him as being a lady killer, even if he can't play violin.

if those rumours about his "the looks" are true....then this guy(kinski) portraying paganini must be a very good one:

and this what paganini really looked like:

(note: kinski in the paganini movie even has the same coat as the portrait)

Couldn't understand a word that was said. I hope it doesn't show in my area.

I wonder if they used real gut string's.

LOL,
I just saw your post Robert. Thanks, I don't think they know who FM is smile

David Garrett is actually a great player but he chooses to play a lot of easy pop stuff rather than complicated virtuoso violin repertoire.
