Basic details:

Where to join us: http://www.streetjelly.com

It's a fun chance for new players to get a chance to have a laid back kind of recital... I mean, what's easier than doing a recital from the comfort of your own home? You can play one song and be back in your pajamas in no time, enjoying watching the other players coffee2

You have over a month to work on one of the songs Fiddlerman has made a demo video for (so helpful!) or if you are working out of a book, pick one you are most comfortable with and play that :D  violin_girl

Worried about only playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star? Don't be, because all of us will be playing first year songs! violin-student

Shows can be up to a half hour, or as little as one tune. More details will be added, but just wanted to get the thread started :)

No need to have any fancy set up, my first time playing on there I propped up my laptop on a stack of pillows.

One tip for playing and watching shows on Streetjelly, is you'll want to be sure your flash player is up to date. Here is a quick link to check yours out: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-.....yer.html

Very cool video. I'm happy that they are doing well. It's such a great forum for musicians to both listen and perform.

It is a pretty cool platform. I like the Replay feature that they added a little while ago. I mean, I don't think anyone wants to replay my squeaky shows, but it's nice if you miss someone it's nice that the option is there for some users to have their show replayed.

Yes, this sounds like a great option for many. :)
By the same token, scary for others.

Yeah - I believe the "replay" option is retained for only 24 hours following the broadcast - so it's not like that unfortunate performance, where everything went wrong, will be out-on-the-internet forever.   But remember, it is your choice to enable the session for replay at the start of the broadcast anyway - you have the choice.

Although, that doesn't stop someone else with evil-intent, and with the appropriate software tools, from running the replay, recording from screen and then shoving it onto YT or social media...   but they'd have to grab the replay within the 24 hours.

I've never selected the replay option yet, and having talked myself through it all above, I'm wondering if the performer has the option - having chosen "replay" at the start, to effectively change their mind and at the end of the show, choose to cancel it ?   Dunno.....   dunno

I didn't even know that option was there.

I haven't ever selected the option yet, either. I don't know if it's there for newer SJ users, or people at level 2 or higher? (I don't know how you get to certain levels or how they work, but I didn't see that option until I was at level 2)

Yeah - I'm not sure either - I notice it is only available with the "JellyCaster Web RTC" and above options - I don't think it's available on the "base-line" Flash- Broadcaster

Exactly HOW you transition between levels - well I don't know - it may be based on number of viewers, number of fans, amount of tips given or received.   It may even simply be based on information gathered from your sign-in via whatever browser you're using, or possibly, just from the the data-rate the SJ server detects...  it does seem that the lowest "level" of Flash suggests it is targeted to being "good for low-bandwidth connections" - so - really don't know.....

There are additional limitations of course - it's clear from the icons shown in the different broadcast-types that the "lowest" one, flash-broadcaster, can be used on almost all of the common browsers - but is not usable on mobile devices (apparently, although I do seem to recall tuning in to listen on my android 'phone and it worked - maybe you just can't broadcast - never tried from 'phone).   The "Jellycaster Web RTC" is only advertised as working on Chrome and FireFox....

I'm sure it's not a "secret" - I'll give Frankie a shout, just to satisfy my curiosity roflol

Whatever - that's just detail - it is an AWESOME platform, no doubt about that.....

OK Mandy ( @damfino ) thanks so much for getting this off the ground.

Normally, I'm WELL into parties and get-together s like this - but ( as you know ) I'm kind of torn between lots of other things right now.

Anyway - just to confirm / bring to the notice of others - scheduled a show for this event at 8pm GMT ( that'll be around 4pm EST with appropriate variations as you States-side guys move westwards )...

Ohhh- maybe worth mentioning to newcomers to SJ -  you will always see ANY scheduled show, REGARDLESS of whichever part of the world it is being broadcast from, in your own local timezone... and NOT necessarily the "local time" of the person who scheduled it....    Cool or what...   Yup, WTG - bunny_pole_dancer

Awesome, I scheduled mine for right after you. As always, if my time slot works better for someone over the pond to play, I'm willing to move it earlier or later.

Edit to add that I added a space in the first post with the scheduled shows to make it easy for everyone to find.

For people new to SJ, we normally schedule for 30 minutes, but you can play for as little as 1 song (for 1 song I would figure in 10 minutes as a safe buffer), just please let us know so we can fill the gaps :D

Edit to try adding a fiddler gif I made, lol

Oh wonderful I know I will gladly be attending unless something crazy pops up but i doubt i'll play for the whole 30, maybe 10 or 15 at most as I don't have to many whole songs that i can play decently hahahah.  I'm trying to figure out how to schedule it or sign up for it. Do i just schedule a time under Fiddlerman amateur hour? or do we have a link we can sign up at. it's my first time scheduling a performance on street jelly. I'm pretty flexible in my hours that day right now so it could be any time.

Edit: my screen name on street jelly is the same as here Rockinglr33 :D

@RockingLR33 Here is a link to the StreetJelly Scheduler http://www.streetjelly.com/schedule

You'll choose a title for your show (Fiddlerman Amateur Hour) and then the date and time.

If you look at the calendar, you'll see Jasmine, Billy and myself scheduled for shows that day, I forget what time zone you're in, but it'll show you the times for those shows in your time zone there (they are listed in EST at the top of this thread). Earliest I can be online on Sundays is usually 1pm, but otherwise there's really no official start or end time for the event, but it's easiest to schedule on either side of the shows currently on there to keep from having large gaps between shows :)

Great stuff @RockingLR33 !

Oh - just to clarify something about how SJ shows what's scheduled -

If you / anyone else is a first-timer on SJ, you will not have yet made any broadcasts - and there will be no "captured image" from your most recent show.  That means, if you look on SJ under the menu "Live Preview / All music" - you will not appear in that list.

However - your schedule WILL appear in the SJ "Calendar" menu

I only mention this to save possible confusion - it has happened before - where a newcomer to SJ hasn't spotted the Calendar option, and has only looked at the "Live preview / All music" menu - and they'll see schedules from those who have broadcast before - and just take the next time-slot - possibly overlapping a "first-timer" who only appears in the "Calendar" menu......

You're all good @RockingLR33 - I see you in the Calendar option - just mentioning this for the benefit of other SJ first-timers....  saves having overlapping shows and then resorting to re-scheduling....

OK, I think I have successfully added myself for the 5:00 time slot! Thanks for all the work in setting this up @damfino

Cyndie

P.S. I didn't see anyone else at that time, but if I missed someone who had already scheduled, let me know and I'll change.

Come and let us reason together.

Heyy Mandy @damfino - I'll get in touch with Frankie at SJ - see if we can set this up as a specific SJ event ...

I know anyone can set up an "SJ event" by themselves, but it would be cool to get it promoted separately by SJ - I'll give him a shout and see what he says....

Watch this space...
