... Am I missing a D note????!?? Did I add one?? ... ... I will regret posting this...

LOL Hi Toni...   the answer is "probably" ( to the missing or added D ) but at the same time to my mind, not overly important (at or around the first slur into the first triplet, and what follows ?).   By the time we have 15 or 20 players, with everyone's timing naturally marginally different, it is simply not going to matter - it was "D" across all the notes in question, and so long as the overall timing for bar 6 was OK I suspect it's fine!   But that of course is not  to say "just give-up, take the easy road and don't try"....

I find "getting the rhythm" and bow co-ordination quite difficult, not just there but in other places as well - and - to mis-quote one of your great presidents - “We choose to play violin for this and other projects, not because they are easy, but because they are hard."

As for "regret" - you should have none !   Thanks for the post Toni !

Bill, the measures you illustrated in post #12 are the same ones I've been practicing.

I'm having trouble with violin part 3, starting at bar 33,up to bar 45.  When i'm playing it with the click track i keep getting lost, i think i'm playing some of the notes the wrong length or something.  Can anyone upload a versions of this (however slow) so i can get a better idea of how it's supposed to sound.

It also looks like i'll be playing the top line for the double stops, i'm not fast enough with them to get all the notes in and sounding good.

I will. Soon. I hope. Keep pushing me..... I'm sorry I haven't found time. Every time I plan on doing it something seems to come up.....
If it helps, I will postpone the deadline for at least 4 weeks after I upload my videos. :)

If you can play it perfectly already, probably no need to post here - but that should not stop you - all contributions are always welcome of course - please do not hold back - virtuoso or beginner - all is welcomed !

This attached thread is just for FM forum folks to share "what they have got/achieved so far on the project".

This is NOT a critique thread.

It is for sharing "where we are" and "what bits we find difficult", or anything else related to the FiddlerMan 2015 House of the Rising Sun project....  like "that's not how I hear it in my head" ( LOL - man - @Fiddlerman - that was no comment on your arrangement - you know what I mean, I'm sure )

I can't record anything right now, but will post my "this is how I hear the first 12 bars on fiddle" very soon !   LOLOL hahahaha

-  Hey - this thread has been started for fun and for sharing, because I SIMPLY KNOW lots of folks want some feedback on what they are doing, nothing more....  feel free to add your attempts at various parts, or "parts of parts", even if it is a few bars saying "this is where I struggle" and so on...

Let's talk about it, and more to the point, enjoy....

Bill

This is brilliant!!  I am so busy learning songs that I can play at jam that I haven't participated in a group project.

This is a song I could play at jam but maybe not quite this exact variation!!  Oh my goodness I am so excited and there are bits I could use as breaks!!

Violinist start date -  May 2013

Fiddler start date - May 2014

FIDDLE- Gift from a dear friend. A 1930-40 german copy, of a french copy of a Stradivarius.  BOW - $50 carbon fiber. Strings - Dominants with E Pirastro Gold string.

OK, my second out-take - and my apologies to the original score Pierre !   Here's an attempt at a slightly "rocked-up" version with a bit of variation and improvisation thrown in for good measure....   Oh - and it is on my schizoid violin ( you know, the one that's really a violin but strung as a viola )

I just got a chance to set up my USB to audioface thingy!

I'm figuring out just how this thing works, so here's me playing the violin 2 part :)

This is the first time I've ever recorded myself playing anything

I added the backing track to it to see how the mixer worked, and I think I have too much backing and not enough violin. fortunately, there won't be the backing track for the video.

I'm still frustrating with the wandering half steps and whole steps, and my bow arm is sooooo stiff I can't seem to play anything louder than mf without bounce or scratch. or maybe I don't have enough gain going on the preamp...this whole electric violin thing is new too!

I've sort of hit a plateau with my practicing on this part so any hints or encouragement would be appreciated!

@FirstPancake - sounds to me like you are in control of it ( rather than the other way round - LOL ) and pretty much have it in the bag!   That was my encouragement, I have no hints to offer other than on the "plateau" effect - I find that as well, and often find that putting whatever piece it is to one side for a few days ( oh, but still practicing  / playing other things ) often helps, and suddenly something I was previously struggling with, just works, leaving me wondering "just exactly what WAS the problem" LOL )

Well done !

LOL @Grofica -  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - you are NOT too late - this is just a thread I kicked off for folks to share anything related to the project ( your practice, fumbles, or anything related to the piece ) - the actual FM thread is here - https://fiddlerman.com/forum/t.....n-project/ - you have not missed out - I understand the submission date has been extended from the original, to the 8th July ( but DO check the thread to be sure )...

Great!!! That will work great FirstPancake. Of course, we don't want to hear any of the backing track but I'm sure everyone already knows that. I'm just mentioning it because in the past I've received recorded parts with the audible track.

Thanks everyone! fiddlerman, of its sounds good enough then I'll cut the video (no click track!) this weekend -assuming I can get my webcam and the audioface thingy to work together.

BillyG, I'll have you know my neighbors are now having to endure me sqealing through those high D's on the violin 1 part!
