I was wondering if the tailpiece affects the sound of the violin and if it does in which way. And how do I know the quality of the tailpiece?dunno

The tail-piece almost doesn't have any affect on the sound except for the necessity of it being as far back as possible for longer string lengths. The fine-tuners shouldn't be loose for any buzzing sounds and nothing from the tail-piece should touch the instrument except at the very end where the tail-gut or nylon sits on the end-pin. Also better if all the strings have the same parallel contact point on the tailpiece.violin
